Winter Tires

Winter Tires
I plan to drive my next f Type in winter and will need winter tires. I wont be getting rims, just swapping rubber twice a year. Pirelli makes Sottozeros series 3 that match the front (255/35-20) and series 2 for the back (295/30-20). Unfortunately they don't make a winter tire model that will fit both sizes. Michelin has a winter tire that fits the back but not the front; Nokian, the reverse. Bridgestone -same problem.
What do you use? I live in snowy, very cold Manitoba and need a good tire!
Maybe Im crazy for wanting to do this (the 2017 comes with remote start so I can warm the car up before driving and will garage overnight where its warm).

When I had my Maserati GT, I used inexpensive dedicated 18" rims w/snow tires. (The summer tires were 20's). It made a world of difference in winter driving.
Tire selection when in comes to winter driving is totally the opposite of summer driving.....that is, you want to go tall and narrow. Getting wide, low-profile snow tires totally defeats the purpose. It's all about traction in wintertime.

All good advice here. I tried the rubber swap for one winter. Many shops fear tearing the low profile tires and damaging aluminum and charge a premiun. Second set of dedicated rims is way to go. Dropping to 19s non staggered is good idea if you can find wheels that fit. Tires will be cheaper and help offset cost of wheels.

If you find a good local shop that specializes in high performance and racing tires, the cost and risk of damage will be low. Such shops typically charge $20-25 to m&b the tire (20"). DO NOT trust any of the franchises or gas station mechanics.

When I had my XKR I went to 19" rims (18 won't fit over the brakes) and Toyo snow tires as they have a good sized lug for deep snow and crushed walnut shells in the rubber for ice.. so far the best snows I've used. The car kept going until it 'high centered' a couple of times.. otherwise, no issues.
On my FtypeR, I can use the same setup but didn't this year as I opted to store it.
I used the front width for the rear as well to reduce snow-planning of the rear.

I live in the Six and have been using the SottoZeros on 19's, same size all four. But we haven't had much snow so I can't really comment on traction. However I still believe in the need for a tire that works under 7C during the winter season.
Nice that Jaguar Canada finally got their act together for 2017 and you have the Remote start. I really really wanted that in my MY2016, but they de-contented it on the build sheet for Canadian cars.

That typically occurs , as often is the case, when the shop does not have the right equipment (with lever-less tool head) for low profile tires and delicate surface wheels.
If you find a good local shop that specializes in high performance and racing tires, the cost and risk of damage will be low. Such shops typically charge $20-25 to m&b the tire (20"). DO NOT trust any of the franchises or gas station mechanics.

I can personally recommend the Blizzack LM-32's. They were designed for the Aston Martin Rapide. Need I say more? They were phenomenal this winter. I can't believe that snow tires can perform this well in dry conditions too. I often forget I'm riding on them. And there is nothing wrong with changing out your tires twice a year. That is bad information. Just find a competent shop with the right equipment and you'll be just fine.

In the past I bought a set of coventry wheels and they where fine for the winter, also a set of Toyo winter tires due to the good tread for snow and the crushed walnut shell for ice etc.
Prior winter tires had been Pirelli's but they paled in comparison to the Toyo's in actual winter conditions.
