Wipers turn ON every time car starts
Hello All,
This being my first winter with the F-Type, I noticed something odd in the last couple of weeks. Every time I start the car in the morning AND close the door, the wiper cleans the windscreen 2-3 times. The same occurs when I come back to the car in the evening from office.
I could not find any setting that would do this.
I havent seen this happen till about 2 weeks ago.
Some points to consider:
1. Both at night and in day time (at office) the car is parked in an a covered garage that gets no rain in.
2. It is cold out here (52 - 54 F) and it does rain (just not inside the garages!).
3. I always have the wiper clean the windscreen (by manually pulling the RHS stalk) prior to parking if it were to be raining outside. So there should be no left over water.
4. I did not see anything out of the ordinary from the OBD II port.
5. The wipers are always in "Auto" mode.
The downside of this is that at times the wipers clean a dry windscreen and it leaves some sort of rub marks (think of light dust with extremely low moisture content). I end up using the washer + wiper to get rid of these marks most of the time.
Any one have ideas as to what this might be about? My RR Evoque did not do this - so I am wondering if there is something that I should have a dealer check or is this the norm.

So I gather that others are not seeing this.
Could be - I was hoping that OBD II told me that. Wondering if I nicked any part of the rain sensors while installing the dashcam and hiding its cables. Will take it in for a check.
Unlikely because the time from when I enter the parking garage to the time when I park is about 3 minutes (4 levels down). Also, I see the drip wipe occur (which only occurs if you use the washer jets).

Yes, this happens every single time for me. And what is even more interesting is that if I start the car when the door is open, the wipers wont sweep. As soon as the door is closed, the wipers perform 2-3 sweeps (sometimes even more).

Disconnect the battery for 10 seconds. Time to reboot.

However you do seem to have a hickup, and Unhingd have a good suggestion to what you might try.
If that does not work, take it to the dealer.
Good luck!

Answer: To keep auto-wipers from annoying the driver when they activate at unwanted times. There are times when they need to be off, and it's not nice to swipe water on a police officer, a toll-taker, or security guard standing by your window.

Car washes.

Thanks all for your suggestions.
I may have to observe this for longer, but I think I got the problem to go away.
All I did was to move the wiper stalk to the Off position prior to car start once and then post start move it back to Auto position. It did swipe once when moving back to Auto position (as expected). After this, in at least 3-4 starts, I havent seen the wiper sweep on car start.

I hadn't really thought about it until now, but I always leave mine in the off position in the absence of precipitation because after all, "off means off." When it rains, I move it to the auto position because it varies the wiper speed according to the amount of precipitation very nicely. It could very well be that what you report is the way it's designed (running a "test wipe" when first powered up), and I'll attempt to verify it the next time I have a chance.
I suspect most people keep the wiper switch in the off position, which is likely why I'd never seen this reported before or ever experienced it myself.

Yeah, I checked tonight, and mine have been staying in the auto setting without ever coming on except when water hits the windshield. So much for that theory . . .
