Default Wish List: Mid-Engine F-Type....

When word came out that the next Corvette C8 will be the mid-engine variety, I was drooling.....

Wish List: Mid-Engine F-Type....-corvette-c8.jpg
To me, it's the sexiest 'Vette I've ever seen!

I'm hoping (and praying) that the next gen F-Type will also go mid-engine. Not only will handling improve, but overall drivability as well. (I'm also wishing the next gen. model will also use more carbon fiber to save weight). The last mid-engine Jag sports car was the XJ220:

If the higher-ups can do a modern version with F-Type design cues, it'll be awesome!

If the F-Type looks don't improve (which I know is hard to do), that C8 may very well be my next dream car!

LOL, the mid-engine Corvette rumor has been circulated complete w/ concept designs in every generation starting w/ absolute certainty the C5 would be mid-engined, then it was a certainty for the C6, and a definite certainty for the C7. It always starts about 2-3 years after introduction of a new gen, but it's way too early for those decisions to be made.

My prediction: it's not going to happen.

Mid-Engined 2019 Chevrolet Corvette (C8) to Debut at 2018 Detroit Auto Show

...I just wish Jaguar beats them to it with a mid-engine F-Type.

Yes, and the concept goes back at least as far as 1970.

It is unlikely that such a radical design change would be labeled as an F-Type. More likely a G-Type. The tooling cost on the chassis for the F-Type has to be sufficient to require more than a mere 4 years to recover and the chassis certainly isn't suited to a mid-engine configuration. A mid-engine Jag has to be several years away if at all. Conjecture only, not based in fact.

We'll see. The same definitive mid-engine Corvette stories have appeared in car rags for all recent generations. I think GM enjoys having fun with this. It wouldn't surprise me if they unveiled a concept car at some point, but as we all know concepts don't always make it to production.

Every generation of the Corvette since the C1 in 1953 has run 7-9 years. The C6 ran from 2005-2013. The C7 debuted in 2014, and the earliest we'd expect to see the new gen would be 2021-2022. Anything appearing at the 2018 NAIAS will undoubtedly be just a concept.

Jag already has the design...C-X75. just put the SVR engine in it and I'm good. No need for all the electric motors and batteries hybrid crap.

Just boost the engine up to 600hp or so and lets go. I have my check book in hand.

I said it in another thread: F-Type Superlight.

It's not that I wouldn't want a mid-engine car, but I wouldn't look to Jaguar first if I went shopping for one.
