I think the F type and Range Rover share the same security

Massive problem for Range Rover owners at the moment.

My apologies if this is in the article...it is three a.m. here...did they describe how the thieves were actually stealing the cars?

I would think this affects all cars with keyless entry so basically all new cars. If they are reprogramming the key fob they would have to have the key so not sure where you park would affect that.

The 2016, at least with the InControl Apps, have some sort of GPS or Cellular tracker in them. From your smartphone you can see the status of your car, and the latest trip it has been on, as well as if the doors are locked and the alarm is set. I also think you can set the alarm from your phone.

I'm more worried about vandalism than theft. Or, perhaps vandalism if someone decides they give up trying to steal it.

Having had two cars stolen over the years - my 1980 Mazda RX-7 from NYC (found later that night, with little damage) and my 1995 Acura NSX also from NYC (and never found) - I can't worry about theft (probably not that great a problem here in the Great State of Maine where I live most of the time) nor do I about vandalism (just not something I choose to worry about) even though it is a constant threat from the a-holes of the world. And that's true everywhere in the world, including the Great State of Maine (there's just fewer numbers of them here as the population is so small). Now that you mention it, I am mildly concerned returning to my F-Type hoping there's no damage.

I'm not really worried about car being stolen. That's what insurance is for. I'm more paranoid about vandalism, break-ins, etc. That is a PITA to fix. If you are going to mess with my car, just steal the damn thing, don't damage it for me to fix.

Jaguar do appear to offer Trackers as a dealer fit option in the UK. The mark up is huge though.

My dealer installs LoJack on all their Jags and LRs as soon as they arrive on the lot. It's a cost of doing business for them since they had so many stolen off the lot. Therefore no additional cost to their customers.

Had '91 300ZX stolen and ended up burned at Lake Mead. Supposedly gang initiation. Big problem in 24 hour town, cause high insurance rates. My daughter had restored "71 280 SL pagoda stolen in front of busy restaurant on very busy street in LA. If someone wants the parts they can find a way. They only took the hardest to find parts! If all major data systems can be hacked a car probably is easy. Problem will get worse.

Like some others, more worried about vandalism than theft. I am more likely to take my Land Rover if I am going have to park my car in the street in iffy areas.

I did my own vandalism in the Land Rover taking it down many overgrown tracks and pinstriping both sides extensively.

It's not a real 4x4 without the self-inflicted pinstripes and mashed in rocker panels. Otherwise it's just a soccer mom van.

True, although I don't have mashed rocker panels because I installed Rocksliders.
