All else being equal, a 2017 will be worth more than a 2016 when you sell it, whenever that is. The longer you wait to sell it, the less the difference will be. If you're one to buy a car and then sell it within just a few years, I think getting the newer model year would be the better financial move. If you're going to keep a car for ten years or more, then the initial savings would likely outweigh the additional $ you'd get when selling it.

That depends on how much less you pay. In the end it's just an educated guess. If it's likely to be a wash, then I'd take the newer model year car. Of course, if you have to wait several months for the newer model year car, then it's not really as wash because you're giving up time. When the 2016's and 2017's are on the lot together, there will need to be a pretty big difference between the two in order to incentivize most people to buy the older model year. I'm thinking Jaguar will need to kick in a rebate of $2,000 or $3,000 to help the older cars along. However, Jaguar doesn't operate the same as most other manufacturers, so we'll see.
