My 2015 F type R stereo received the upgrade a few months ago. Previously it started to develop some buzzing and the sound quality just was not that good.

Now it is much better and I would say that the wattage was not reduced as I can produce very powerful sound and punch. My mechanic told me that Jaguar re-configured the split per speaker as one of the upgrades, plus others that he was not sure of, but he did say that a lot of work went into the new upgrade.

And to add, the dealer also added some sort of sound insulation to the doors.

To amr42 - I did the same - simply took the service bulletin in with me and parroted the symptoms. I was frank with the dude and said not as pronounced, however.

Too funny on the lower wattage reply!

I still had a small rattle from the child safety seat cover under base that I was able to fix with some padding. For those that have a rattle after the upgrade you may want to check out the child safety latch cover.

Where is the child safety latch cover located?

The child safety latch is behind the passengers seat close to the center console. Just push the passengers seat up and you should see it. The location is also in the users manual. You just pull the cover from the bottom.

I just picked up my car from service with the update and it is night and day better. Sound comes out of all speakers, the sub sounds much better and not muddy. So worth it!

I hear a rattling noise coming from what seems to be behind or around the passenger seat. But I can only hear it when the stereo is off.

I wonder if that is it.

What did you tell them? I have a 2017 but I'm not sure if my speakers can be improved or not (not much of an audiophile I guess), is there a way to determine whether your speakers are not performing the way they should?

Maybe I should just take it in and say it sounds bad.

I don't believe the fix came out until late last year based on this thread. My 17 is an 02/16 build so it wasn't available then.

I just gave them the TSB and SSM docs from this thread. They didn't want to install it but I pretty much said it's my car, do it.

Question, do you use the meridian or the dts setting?

Before the fix, DTS was the only tolerable setting for me. After the fix, I find Dolby to provide the best separation and fidelity.

That is also my experience. It's a close call between DTS and Dolby after the fix, with a slight advantage towards Dolby. Before the fix DTS was clearly best.

concur - between Dolby and DTS its a close call. Meridian is a step down IMHO.

Funny that, I find Meridian the best.
I have never had the fix applied (maybe the previous owner did) but my 770W surround system has always sounded really good to me, and Cambo has heard it and reckons it's all good. I have fiddled with various settings and I keep coming back to Meridian, for me it's the clearest and crispest but still with strong and clear bass.

I ended up on Meridian after a long time on dts. It gives me more of the surround effect.

I'm going to dealer tomorrow for this update. Hopefully I won't have to argue/persuade them to just do it. The service advisor said on the phone he hadn't heard of this before. There's probably only a couple F-types registered in this whole region though, so it doesn't surprise me. I'm armed with a couple tracks that demonstrate it, and a tone generator on my phone which really demonstrates it, and the printout of the bulletin from topix in this thread.

I hope the update is as good as some say. The stereo in this car is "tragic" by my standards. Luckily the exhaust makes up for it.

Mine improved to a very good level and I now enjoy listening to music in the car. I hadn't often used the "Meridian" setting, but on high quality cd's I've now found the bass is very tight and the subwoofer and treble cleaner at higher volumes. Please report back how you make out.
