I am taking my f-type s in for it's 72 month service next week and as this is my first year owning an f-type I was just wondering what a reasonable price would be for this.
I got an offer from a reputable service shop in my city for ~$900. Is this roughly what I should expect for servicing the car or am I getting scammed?
I realize this will differ wildly from country to country and even city to city but having something to compare to would be good.
Depends on what they are doing - I had mine done last year and opted for the oil change, supercharger belt, and plugs (approx. $850; dealer covered the oil change)- mine only had 16K miles but I did the work just to ensure I had good records and minimize the chance of failure - this year I am doing the oil change, coolant flush, and brake fluid flush (approx. $650) and my mileage is probably only 5-700 higher than last year.
As mentioned above, it depends on the amount of work being performed. If they're going strictly by the maintenance schedule, it would include oil change ($150), supercharger belt ($115), brake fluid change ($115), pollen filter ($50), and spark plugs ($250), and lots of "checking." That totals $680, plus a "checking" factor (which the dealer will often do for free as part of a multi-point inspection). I'd add rear differential fluid change ($100) because it's good hygiene and not on the regular schedule. Obviously, that's here in the US, but it gives you a starting point on what to expect on scope and cost. I'd be inclined to specify the items you want done that you can't handle yourself, vs a general 6-year list. Most are fairly easy to handle. The plugs are a bit of a pain and you'd need a lift for the differential. Oil change is easy if you have/get an extractor. Pollen filter on eBay (10 minutes the first time; 3 minutes thereafter).
Thanks for the info! As for the maintenance schedule when I look at the Jaguar online service history for my vehicle a 72 month service does not include a spark plug change. It does for the V8 version though.
Since I'm not a very handy person when it comes to cars I will leave it to the experts to service this beauty.
"when I look at the Jaguar online service history for my vehicle a 72 month service does not include a spark plug change."
Interesting. For MY14, there are 2 slightly different schedules out. One says all engine version should do plugs at 6 years / 96k miles. The other says the same for all versions except the V6S - which is half that. I haven't heard of folks having function problems with their plugs, and certainly there are very few pushing the mileage threshold. But, the plugs CAN get corrosion and be a bitch to remove if they stay too long. There's no change in the engine between MY14 and MY16 (which presumably is yours), but whatever your schedule says should be fine. But it obviously affects what you'd expect in the bottom line price.
Mine is indeed a MY16 and had the spark plugs replace during it's 60 month service last year with the previous owner. I checked the service schedule for the 60 month one and it does indeed have spark plug replacement on it whilst the 72 month does not.
Interesting that the service schedule is different between trim levels. I will follow the schedule just to keep the service record perfect but could be something to take closer look at for the longterm health of the car.
My 6th year is coming up, but will only will have 15K miles.
Should I delay replacing spark plugs...?
Personally, I wouldn't consider them a priority in your case, and would put off a year or two. (I did mine last year on a MY14 @30k.) I rather do the differential fluid, and brake fluid, as scheduled.
