rMost new cars will depreciate to 50% of MSRP at 3 years and 36,000 miles (average 12k/yr). Jeep Wranglers, Audi S5, RS5, Porsche 911 do better. They are also not discounted very much at sale, so you are likely to pay MSRP or close to it. I haven't surfed the stats in awhile, but there are calculators on the net (or there were at one time) on rates of depreciation for various cars. At one point, I had found a calculator where you could input the make and model and it would give you the depreciation based on how many years old at standard mileage. If you can capitalize the cost of a slower depreciating car that has less of a discount, and also want that particular car, it's obviously worth it. Many factors go into the decision. I wanted a new car this time. Maybe not next time, if there is one. In a year or two, I will likely replace my winter car with a performance winter car and will definitely be looking at the used market. I hope someone is buying something I'll like new right now!
