z4 ?
Drove z4 m40i yesterday. The car has many pluses: good performance for the money, good electronics, head up display, ACC, remote roof opening and close, nice trunk space.
Doesn't have good quality leather as an option and no ventilated seats.
But ...for 75K it's not a bad alternatives for a roadster.
Anybody else looked at it?

I am first hooked on looks, then I pretty much see if I can live with the car. A friend has a red z4 with black pack, it looks fantastic. It isnt the same shape as the F Type, but it looks great in another way, our cars look brilliant together. I have no use for a 'vert, but if I did that would be one I would look at. To be honest I'd stick with the Jag for noise, the overall shape which I prefer, and I prefer the badge (be a bit different etc) but I'd probably take the z4 over a Boxster, and defs over an audi whatever whatever

I had a Z4 that spontaneously combusted in my garage - seriously. The dash caught fire internally and thankfully the windows and top were closed and so the fire ran out of oxygen before it could escape the car and burn down my garage, the car was a right off though.
It had been babied and was very low mileage, no one could explain why it caught fire and it was put down to an electrical anomaly, I will never own another BMW.

the new redesign z4 doesn’t do it for me. I prefer the older generation z4 but that generation had its problems.
test drove the 2021 Supra. Not bad, not great. I also preferred the mk4 Supra generation.

What year z4? I assume your talking about an n54. The n54 was bmws first twin turbo motor launched in 2007. It’s a fun car that can be tuned to well over 800hp if you have the budget. But, in daily driving, n54 have many inherent failure points. Actually, why engine is stout but it’s everything around it, crappy bmw failure prone parts. The turbos wastegates often develop rattles, vaccuum lines will fray, the engine will leak oil from every gasket over time. Oil filter housing around every 50k, valve cover around 100k, oil pan at 80-100k, rear main seal over 100k. The injectors have been through 5 revisions and are prone to failure. Plugs or coils tend to go out before 30-40k (but super easy to replace), vanos solenoids every 60k miles. That’s just what I remember off the tip of my head. I’ve lived with this engine on my tuned 2007 335i with 153k miles. It’s fun, but it can be money pit and is extremely frustrating at times. Owned since 2010 starting at 34k miles. Also owned a 2002 330 for 8 years and 150k miles. They don’t age well and many of the issues are just inherent to bmw design. If you like to get your hands dirty and work on your own cars and have the time, could be a fun car. But I’m so glad we got an ftype instead of a z4.

My son had one two years.
He bought it used. It had more than $20,000 of repairs in the first 4 years. 4 $5000 events. Electric steering. Convertible top. Replacement head. Fuel injection.
I thought it was smaller feeling. He just did not like it. However, he sold it for what he paid for it.
His was failure free two years. The Infinity coupe, Nissan Z car with 4 seats Replaced it. Never spent money on it for 8 years.
I did not like either of them as well as my p300 Jaguar.
