2004 XJ8 air bag airline connector leaking
Greetings to all from a newbie to this forum. But long in the tooth in the outside world, having enjoyed and suffered many Jag's since my first 1957 2.4 sedan.
My current is a newly acquired 2004 XJ8 4.2 with 68,000 miles. My initial problems are a trunk release that only partially opens on the release button (replacement latch has been ordered) and a hissing front right air line connector on the airbag. OEM bags. I've had three Lincoln Mk8 in my vehicle history, so I've done some Re&Re in the past.
I've discovered the connector was finger tight and when tightened further it firmed up, hiss dropped and then loosened up again. I suspect stripped threads. Rather than replace the OEM bag or swap out for two Arnotts, I'm tempted to remove the connector and use epoxy such as JBweld on the threads and snug up and hope for a lasting fix.
To this end I welcome comments and perhaps someone can refresh my memory on how to release the air from the system and the air line from the connector.
Thank you in advance.
Clive

It strikes me that JB Weld is overkill and might make a subsequent repair attempt difficult & probably even more expensive. Do you think that trying some Teflon plumbers tape around the threads wouldn't be a better first try?
On which end are the threads stripped, the male or female end ? There are tons of pressure sensors for sale on eBay and as far as I've heard they aren't particularly prone to failure so they should be a safe buy used. Of course if the stripped threads are on the pressure line side that could be a bit more problematic, at least as far as replacement is concerned.

Greetings Graham and RD,
First, thank you for your input. I bit the bullet and attacked it. I didn't want to end up with a failed suspension and having to order a replacement assembly.
JB weld would have been permanent for sure However it turned out that the threads were not stripped. I let the air bleed out overnight and removed the connector as shown on the diagram. The threads were perfect, so I applied some permatex RTV (blue) and reattached the airline connector and tightened up. No more hissing.
Now I just have to track down the slow coolant leak which is prevalent in some Jags. It seems so slow that it evaporates leaving little evidence of the leak source. I've inspected the expansion tank it it all seems OK.
Cheers
