I'll try to keep this short, I am having an issue that may or may not deal directly with my battery in a 2012 XF 5.0 NA . I recently put in a replacement cooling system after having an overheating issue. My battery went flat while performing the fix and when I tried to restart the car. my instrument cluster lit up showing all relatable warning lights, when pushing the start button to the ignition on mode. Upon pushing it again for the start mode, the car shut down completly. All instrumentation went black. I decided to take the battery out and charge iil. After replacing the charged battery and trying to start, none of the warning lights lit up but I got the message smart key not found. I noticed a couple connectors in the battery area were not connected. Most noticeably a 2 wire connector white with a black wire and a brown with yellow stripe wire. Now my battery is flat again and I'm thinking that the white connector may be the circuit for the smart key. HELP The small white connector in question
Nup, it ain't that small wire. That wire/plug is for dealership pre-delivery set-up and is never needed or used again.
It's likely the battery is cactus as it's now five years old and has been completely flattened at least once.
The connector is for the Transit Relay which is fitted for vehicle delivery to the dealer to prevent a flat battery during shipping. This is removed and discarded during PDI and the connector tucked away out of sight until some curious owner inevitably finds it and asks the question.
I've never actually seen a Transit Relay but here's a drawing from the Jaguar PDI Manual.
You are likely to find several unused harness connectors on the vehicle. Depends on the equipment specification because the harnesses cater for all options.
Good advice on the battery. Five years is average life for one in a modern Jaguar although regular use of a battery tender can significantly extend this.
Have you tried docking the Smartkey?
Partially discharged or failing batteries cause all kinds of weird electrical effects in a Jaguar.
