I do own an IDS, but the version I had on CD (from British Diagnostics) was never able to connect to my XJS. They sent me several others, via download link, but now my laptop is dead. I have a new (old) laptop, running Windows XP Pro, but I can't restore any of the old IDS versions.
A VCM and IDS 118.5 is the last version of IDS. SDD is the continuation and MIGHT revert to legacy IDS but I don't think it will recognize any AJ16 ECM.
A Mongoose Pro will work with SDD125 onward, not any software previous.
You should concentrate on WDS or IDS (118.5) with a VCM.

You could try the Diagnostic Associates DA-Dongle for Pre 2017 cars, that is the device used by JLR in the field, that's what I used without problems and they are very helpful if you have a problem. Direct from them in the UK they are £195 but I have seen them slightly cheaper at dealers on the internet. They also do a new version which covers both new and older cars which works with both SDD and Pathfinder but that is a lot more expensive but again it is supported by JLR.

Hi Dymaxxion,
try and have a look here: Search Result: jaguar=
I bought several of the Pro's there for my folks and run them with 130 without problems.
(And what do you call "fast shipment" ? Count in three weeks.)
Best regards
André

It was to flipping hot yesterday afternoon , but I did get out this morning. I have no issues with my car but ran a scan anyway. It went thru and detailed all the option on the car, asked a few questions if a few things where fitted or not, and spit a nice laundry list of details about the car itself.
A lot of buttons
LOL and a lot of options under all those buttons. Even an option to balance your drive shaft, of course I'm certain that extra tooling is required not to mention weights.
Anyone in my area that I can help out please feel free to drop a PM. I'm 20 or so miles south of Annapolis in Calvert County.

Thanks to our mysterious literature 'benefactor', there is some good information included in these files. I've got lots of reading time planned for that Manual.SDD
- IDS-SDD-JLR Manual (February 2012)
- IDS Maintenance & Troubleshooting Guide v2.2
- IDS to SDD Transistion Guide v2.5 (sorry Bob, no "WDS to SDD Transition support
)
- SDD New Features
- SDD Newsletters (includes hints and tips)
- IDS Introduction for New Users
- IDS Maintenance Guide v1.3
- IDS Training (this is the biggee)
- IDS Guide Release

I'm unable to locate this info anywhere. Appreciate the help. I tried using GGG's version of 150 but the patch file is no longer available. Bill sent me CD's but I don't have a date to launch.
Shoot I prolly should have posted this elsewhere , I have an OEM VCI. But while I'm asking.
Dates for v 138? 145? 150?

obviously would require the jag software v118.5 which it seems people here could supply,
but would this VCM2 be compatible to work with a 1995 X300?
i know it is a chinese clone and may or may not work.
more just trying to understand does it need to be a VCM or is a VCM2 (which are more readily availible) suitable?
i would love to have a diagnostic tool to look into my car.

From a post that I did elsewhere:
I use 7/12/17 for V150, If remember correctly.
Which offline version of SDD should I use?
That can depend on personal preference and what model year vehicle you hope to service. Versions with integral VBF vehicle Binary Files are recommended. Typical SDD release dates (approximate):
V126 July 2011
V130 Jul 2012
V131 Oct 2012
V135 Oct 2013
V137 Feb 2014
V138 Jun 2014
V139 Aug 2014
V141 Mar 2015
V142 May 2015
V143 Oct 2015
V144 Dec 2015
V145 May 2016
V146 Aug 2016
V147 Nov 2016
V148 Dec 2016
V149 Apr 2017
V150 Jul 2017
A release date that coincides with your vehicle production date will have all of the files required for off-line operation and module programming. Why not just use the most recent release date available? There are subtle differences between versions. If you are learning/asking questions, using that same version as your mentors makes sense. Newer releases have newer vehicle binary files and nicer UI, user interfaces. Older versions have simpler structures and may allow files to download under "less than perfect" conditions. Example: A module is working but fails to communicate via CAN properly. If you need to program a new key a "newer" version may halt the process until the questionable module is replaced. An older version may ignore the issue and allow the key programming. If you are studying the actual program structure, earlier versions, say V138 and earlier, are linear and easier to follow.
Best regards,
Bill
