Here's one for the experts!
Connected up to an '03 X100 on the weekend, first I was greeted by the rather disturbing message "SDD software updates have not been performed recently. Functionality will eventually be disabled. Click here to perform updates now."
![](https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11575086/SDD_Not_Updated.jpg)
Click for the full screen view...
The SDD did seem to be working, however I was unable to take any action in resetting the Restraints Module in the X100 (airbag light flashing, code C1981) there were simply no "recommendations". I couldn't find my way in to re-flash the drivers seat module either...
Is this because the car is too old? or because the software hasn't been updated?
I hadn't got round to updating the Mongoose firmware to Pro, would that have anything to do with it?

Send me a PM and tell me exactly how you authenticated your SDD. Then I will have an idea how to answer your query. The answer for the rest of the questions is rather long winded, so I'll have to get to that a little later, I have work to do now.
Cheers,

OK Cameron,
At this point the Mongoose firmware really isn't an issue for the things you mentioned. But I do think you should go ahead and do that update at your first opportunity.
As far as the restraints system goes, I don't think SDD will be of much help, other than clearing the code once any fault is found and repaired. The attached bulletin might help more.
Now the seat module is another matter. First, why do you want to flash the seat module? The ONLY time that should be necessary is if you are installing a NEW, blank module. Originally, seat modules for '97 through 2002 were ordered using a software suffix and were programmed by Jaguar Parts before shipping. In 2004 we were given the ability to program those modules in IDS for cars 2004 and later, but we still had to order the programmed module for the older cars. [the basic module is the same part, however, remember that]
In classic right hand not knowing what the left is doing, style, Jaguar Parts got wind WE could program seat modules. Some wise guy said, "If they can do it, we don't have to any more, so we'll only stock & supply blank modules". Not only that, they did away with the equipment and personnel to do the programming! So now, if I get a new module for an older car, I technically can't program it for the car.
Now here's the kicker; the ONLY way we have to program a seat module for a car before 2004, is to put it in a 2004 or later car, program it, and then put it in the earlier car.![Icon Stooge](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_stooge.gif)
DOH! I'm tellin' ya......ya can't make this stuff up!!

Really interesting comment on the seat control module.I sort of thought that if you transferred a module from another vehicle it would have to be regrammed to the receiving vehicle.
Would it be true to say that you could transfer of the other control modules from car to car without reprogramming them?
For example the front body control module?

I hesitated even offering up that comment, but I did; so here is the follow up warning. NO, this seat module thing is a workaround only of necessity. This DOES NOT mean this sort of thing can be done with any module. In fact, in most cases, if you try to swap modules and program them to the new car like a new module, you will succeed in creating a [possibly expensive] brick. This is particularly true of modules that are in any way related to or involved with OBDII. There are some you can make run the car, but will forever fail govt. required inspection if you have that in your state. There are no blanket answers either. Trying to use a used module is ALWAYS a case by case thing. I've been doing this since before there were modules, and I don't attempt it without researching each and every one, can't possibly remember which will fly, and which won't.
Consider yourself warned.
I'm not trying to be a smarta**, I just don't want someone to get themselves in a pickle because they saw me tell a guy how to get a particular module up and running in a particular car.
Cheers,

I don't know what to think about the SDD software, or why it won't load. If you get another disc from eBay, let us know how it goes.
Good luck!

Six Rotors, which version IDS/SDD did you get that's not working?
Don't pay for a disc mate, the software is free to download directly from JLR
www.diagnosticdelivery.com - /idscentral/ if you've got enought time to download it....
What exactly was the problem with the install? What error messages did you get?
Your operating system has to be in English because the program must be installed in the "Program Files" folder, other languages have other names...

That doesn't sound good!
Also, poor chap desperately needs some help from someone with an IDS...
