ECM VIN mismatch - VID Block Edit?
Calling IDS/electronics gurus,
Trying to help a fellow JF member: 2003 X-Type with a dead ECM.
Replacement ECM from a donor vehicle.
Manually entered correct VIN at the begining of the IDS session.
IDS 135 with a genuine Mongoose, initially no communications with the ECM, flashed Zf7-2.5L NA successful after rectification proceedure.
Message VID Block not stored at end of flash.
Reprogrammed IP and was offered VIN entry via on-screen keyboard.
Entered correct VIN and successfully reflashed IP.
Diagnostics module scan shows correct VIN at IP but donor VIN at ECM.
There appears no way (except golden key?) to correct the VIN mismatch via IDS. Bulletin 1-186 appears to say that VID Block should be edited by Jaguar engineering.
Can anyone help?
Is there a way to have IDS correct the mismatch?
Anyone have tools and skill to edit the vehicle file/VID Block?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Bill

Update 11/23/14:
I am working toward "cracking" the ECM for the purpose of re-writing the VIN.
As posted on a couple of JF threads and my own experience, salvage/donor ECMs can be made to work but the wrong VIN will fail state/government vehicle inspections.
I have been using IDS 131 and 135 with a genuine Mongoose thus far. However, I don't know if this VIN change can be done via the CAN network.
The ECM microprocessors are Hitachi HD64F7055 (X-Types) and HD64F7058 (XJ) for MYs in the 2002-9 range. Programming tools are available from the current manufacturer free on a trial basis. I'm hoping to read the programming from the microprocessor (chip), edit the VIN and re-write to the micro-chip. This will have to be with the chip still on the ECM board. I am still learning about using the chip mfg flash tools and compilers.
I also want to upgrade the IP in an X-type to the "hi series" but want to revise the odometer from the donor to match the actual vehicle mileage. An IP and ECM issue, I am led to believe.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The original issue, change VIN on the engine control module, was not resolved at the time.
However, in the ten years since, the Golden Key has become available from many sources.
But caution, most of those "tools" contain a virus.
Do you have a functional copy of IDS/SDD? If not, start there.
Next, you will need a golden key tool.
One without virus can be found on GitHub.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Where did you find the Denso ECU? I looked on their web site and they do list the XJ with all the engine options but the ECU's were not brands I had seem before?
I am also confused on how you attach the ECM? They all have different plugs and their programmer is shown connected directly to the ECU? Are there a set of adapters needed?

dear colleague, I am from Russia and tomorrow I will post a list of ECUs that ktag supports, yes, this is done with opening the ECU and connecting special adapters, I just don't have ktag at hand at work right now. about the correctness of the work, of course, I have no guarantees there are still programmers in case of block failure

No problem Ura! Just trying to follow along. This is another level above my SDD system and not sure I will ever go that deep but it does help me understand the entire system better and where the problems are.
I did not see any pricing either so not sure if it's even in my price range?
