Hey Guys,
Ok, its been a little over a year since the dealer did the fuel system cleaner where they pump a solution into the motor to clean it out. I want to try some of the auto parts store additive you put in when you gas up that does the same thing supposedly and that many people here endorse. What product do you like and why?
However, I was told by a friend of mine just fuel up with some 110 octane racing fuel and it will do the same thing....is this true?
Thanks as always! -Erik

745, I look at it this way, racing fuel is nothing more than higher octane fuel than what you run every day. So, the same detergents that are in your gas now, are in the racing fuel (if not less). Where the "injector cleaners" are normally a higher percentage of detergents with some burnable petroleum tossed in. So, to me, using racing fuel may work for getting rid of some carbon around the valves and possibly some carbon in the cat, but that is about it as the racing fuel is going to burn hotter and may be enough to vaporize the carbon build up. Where the injector cleaners are going to use a detergent to get stuff out of the injectors to help with the atomization of the fuel, scrub some of the carbon off, and while in the cat, burn and get rid of the carbon there.
Your call.

It's not likely that burning 110 octane will do anything for ya. Yes, its cleaner than pump gas, and it will have fewer additives and be more consistent in the mixing of what additives it DOES have. It's also significantly more expensive than running a product that is designed to clean the injectors. I am also a fan of the Barry Grant products, as someone else mentioned above.(from my wireless)

Right on here..
Been using BG 44K on my cars for over 10 years now. It really works and was originally recommended to me by a service writer at a local Oldsmobile dealership. He said they used it instead of their GM stuff, because it does what it claims to do. The first time I used it was on my '89 Olds 3.8 that had a mpg drop from 30+ to around 20. I had replaced the plugs and fuel filter and run some regular over the counter fuel system cleaners to no avail. After running a couple of cans of BG 44K the mileage was back over 30 again.
I recommend this product to everyone. I get it now at Advance Auto here locally. It's about $21 a can. I just put a can in the X with the last fillup.

I remember some time ago seeing an Add for Duralube and bought some of their products. They have an extensive range covering , engine, transmission, feel cleaners / additives etc etc
My wifes Ford Escort 1.6 seemed slow, sluggish, non responsive and got very poor mpg. I used the engine and fuel treatment pack from Duralube and almost immediately noticed a big difference. Over the course of a week and some serious miles during which the treatment really got to do its work the difference was literally like night n day. The car was more responsive altogether and the mpg really did increase too.
I'm definitely a fan and have used it again since
