Gas tank filler issue

Gas tank filler issue
Good morning. Just bought a 2007 XJ8. While trying to fill up the gas tank for the first time, it wouldn't take the fuel very fast. It took me severtal minutes to fill it up. It kept shutting off the filler nozzle every time I tried to give it more fuel. Any ideas on the cause.
Thanks.

This isn't really uncommon on some Jags. The "long" filler neck is in reality rather short and if you put the nozzle all the way down, you're probably blocking the evaporator hole. The pressure backs up and triggers the pump to shut off. Try inserting it just far enough so it stays in place, maybe 1/3 of the way in. Maybe also try the second notch on the pump instead of the highest too.

let us know the outcome please. It will help others. Also of note, don't top off your fuel by constantly clicking the pump nozzle to get to an even $ number. When you do that and your tank is already full, you're pushing the full down the evaporator line causing an entirely different set of problems.
