If you do a forum search you can see how I linked a CD drive to my WDS PTU with a ribbon cable and some adapters. The power to the CD drive can be from an old computer case with the power supply that still works.
I recommend having a few HDDs with software loaded so that when an old drive fails you have one in reserve.
The WDS uses ATA33 HDD up to 8 gb. I have noticed that a 3.2 gb drive does not have the capacity for the Jaguar 43 software. I look for 4.3, 6.4 or 8 gb drives.
The SSD flash card system seems to be 'hit-or-miss' as far as being compatible. I loaded one that worked and bought an identical holder and flash card that would not work. The flash cards would swap between the functioning holder/adapter and work with one but not the other???
I have had people send me a few blank HDDs and I loaded the Ford and Jaguar software using one of my WDS on the docking station, then sent it back to them.
I guess that is what abonano has in mind.
good luck

Luckily, my docking station and CD Drive are both 100% operational.
I have ATA33 6.49 HDD drives available. I stocked up on them a while back.

I left the dealer 10 years ago and don't remember all that I used to know!!! I don't have very many X350 Jaguar customers. If the VIN is recognized then WDS will do most anything that is required by a dealer.
If I had tech questions about configuring modules I used to be able to call Jaguar Technical Hotline but that was 10 years ago!!!!!
I guess you could go into the 'setup and config' tab and see what modules and configs are available for that car. I only have a few X308s here at this time so I can't 'experiment' on X350 for you.
I don't remember all that is in the NP04 student guide (New Product 2004) I got when I attended class in Mahwah NJ back in 2003. Ill look for the guide sometime and see if anything like that is addressed or if I took notes.

I have had 2 fail in the past year so I need to get to looking on eBay or someplace like that for a few more. I don't have any here so if you buy one and send it to ME I will load the software as long as you 'buy-the-ride' both ways.

Did you get the WDS up and running??????
I just bought some 6.4 Gb HDDs on eBay for under $20 each inc. shipping.
I also just spent a few hours loading Jag 43 onto a compact flashcard 8 gb with a 44 pin adapter. It works but I have another that didn't work, then it did and now it won't. It won't boot and WDS tells me to install a valid disc.
SSD are iffy I guess.

No not yet Bob
Hi Bob
No I haven't sorted it yet, I have been looking for the exact HDD but can't find one. I have a 6 gig one which may work but don't know?
My friend has told me he had ford on the HDD, is that something you have too?
What do you think about the 6gig HDD, do you think it could possibly work?
Thanks, I really appreciate you taking the time to communicate.

Any ATA33 HDD with a capacity of 4GB or larger will operate in the PTU. I have a BUNCH of Ford CDs and also older Jaguar WDS versions. Ford is always good to have on a HDD for some strange occasion when someone needs it or for trade for Aston Martin, Mazda or other Jaguar software (they all use the WDS).
Here is one that I bought recently
IBM 6 49GB 2 5" IDE Laptop Notebook Hard Drive Dbca 206480 31L9848 6 5GB 6GB | eBay
keep looking.

WDS stuck in Windows 98 safe mode / no docking station
I have only a Jaguar WDS without a docking station. Due to a reset at boot time I'm now stuck in the safe mode. Is there a way to get the touchscreen running in safe mode to exit it properly? Or is there a way to change the windows boot option back to normal startup without a keyboard? At the moment I'm really lost.
Thanks Ben
