Whether or not the immobilization has to be reset to allow starting after a module substitution, really depends on which engine management system the car has. That is because the modules involved in the PATS security system varies. I'll see if I can make this understandable:

X100, X308 4.0L V8 [AJ26/AJ27]
Denso 16-bit Engine System

X200 4.0L V8 and 3.0L V6 [AJ60/AJ28/AJ26]
PTEC Engine System

X103, X105, X202, X204, X206, X350, X356, X358, X400, X404 [AJ61/AJ62/AJ33/AJ34]
Denso 32-bit Engine system**

------------------------------

PATS Involved Modules:

Denso 16-bit
Engine Control Module [ECM]
Key Transponder Module [KTM]
Body Processor [BPM]

PTEC Engine System
Engine Control Module [ECM]
Instrument Pack [IPC]
General Electronic Module [GECM]

Denso 32-bit
Engine Control Module [ECM]
Instrument Pack [IPC]
**For 2006-2008, the XJ and S-Type got a new engine system called the PAN-PAG ECM system, but the PATS remained the same.

Any PATS involved module, if it is substituted, can be 'immobilized' so it will function, [and allow starting] but it cannot be 'programmed' to the vehicle like it is a new module.

Whew! There it is. And you thought it was cut and dried...........

Sorry for the confusion.
Ok so how can I do this using wds or is the dealership my only option?

Yes Bob, i need the Jaguar CD's, hope you still supplied them (meanwhile 2014). i have a WDS3500 with a crash disk, found a new disk but don't have the CD's to install the sofware. Already replaced the internal Litium cell and 9.6v battery pack

For those who are looking for it, I have gathered some technical information about the memory and CPU of the WDS3500.
The internal memory is: 4x Samsung KM416V4104CS-6 / 32MB 72PIN MEMORY SIMM. A total of 128mb. CODE 910 witch means made in: 10-1999
CS means CAS Latency. CS-6 means: CAS 60ns
Note! be shure to make the contact's clean before you place the new memory, prefer 96% acohol.

The CPU is an Intel Pentium 2 notebook processor card, 233Mhz MMC1 512k PRM

Is there anyone who has done a BIOS flash with the WDS3500? or is there someone who knows who built the motherboard? The one that I’m working on is from the year 07-15-1995. Unlike Bob’s machine he 'sees' the 40GB disk,
If we achieve this, then it’s also quite possible to place different types of memory, eg PC100 or PC133. The downgrade comes automatically to PC66.

Cool WDS3500 BIOS flash

Is there anyone who has done a BIOS flash with the WDS3500? or is there someone who knows who built the motherboard? The one that I’m working on is from the year 1998 with a bios from 07-15-1995. Unlike Bob’s machine he 'sees' a 40GB disk, but only 8GB is available.

I've got the chance to buy a WDS machine with Ford software, having read through this thread my understanding is that there is software for Aston Martin.
I have a 2005 DB9, if someome could advise me on were to get copies of the software that would be great.

I can help you with that. I have all the latest versions of the WDS software for Ford, Jaguar and Aston Martin. But you will also need an interface to read and program your Aston Martin. With the standard Ford WDS B-203 cable you can only access the engine module (standard OBD2) and very few of the other modules. To access the body socket modules, like the infotainment, alarm, keys, instrumentation and other modules, you will need an interface (adapter) between the cable and the socket (see attached files for actual WDS screen and for picture from manual). This interface rewires the information from the 16-pin body socket. Because I was unable to find on the internet what this interface does, I had to buy one from Aston Martin. That proved to be very difficult because AM only sells this interface to AM dealers (and the price is a small fortune!). Well I finally got hold of an interface (see picture - on the left side) and decided not only to find out what is does, to be able to make copies, but also to improve it. Because the problem with this adapter is that when working with the WDS you constantly need to plug in the interface, remove it and plug it in again while the WDS is reading (or programming) the different modules in the car. This constantly adding and removing of the adapter wears out the sockets of the car. So I decided to fabricate adapters with build in switches to bypass the interface. So with this adapter you can switch between the adapter as an interface (rewiring mode) and bypassing (just normal OBD2 connection). This works much faster and prevents unnecessary damage to the car sockets. See pictures for further information.

If anyone is interested in these adapters, please sent me a PM.

Default Sotware change

I have managed to get hold of a WDS which is in very good condition apart from the PTU batteries. It came with two lots of software (Ford & Jaguar), can someone confirm that to change the software on the current hardrive I use the manufacturer Ghost disc first folowed by the disc with whatever version of the manufacturer's software disc?

My intention is to buy separate hard drives like 'motorcarman' and load different manufacturers software.

Yes, that is correct. The GHOST disc will erase everything on the disc and copy a new operating system, ready for the application disc. The SYSTEM GHOST discs are - to my knowledge - NOT identical between Ford, Jaguar and Aston Martin. So you will need the A6 disc for Ford, the JWDS_SysCD2 for Jaguar and the AM_Sys_2004 for Aston Martin. Good luck!

I have the 3 lots of software.

FORD Euro A6 / B45 / C5

JAG CD-2 / CD-42a / CD-43

ASTON CD002 / CD011 (Not the latest released CD013 is I believe)

The plan is to make a multiboot system to choose which to load at boot up.

Ford is a very powerful software install.
The Jag version lacks some of the Ford toys but does the job however can be temperamental!
Aston system is a lot like the Jags but a bit more basic.

I have also been able to run Windows 2000.

Upgraded processor from 233mhz to 275mhz.
Can only get locked PC66 memory to work upto 128MB
Used a solid state 16GB hard drive & 20GB normal types but no partition over 4GB!
The latest BIOS I have seen is this one.

I actually need a bit of help.
My PTU does not see the CD or Floppy anymore when docked.
After a few hours messing about testing stuff I figured out that both these cables are faulty.

Has anyone got any for sale?
It's the cables from the dock connector to the main board in the base station.
Be very careful when removing as it rips the connector terminals away from the cable if your not careful.
Looks like what's happened here.

I can confirm that the latest Aston Martin application CD is indeed CD013 of 2006-2007, latest system CD is CD2 of 2004. As a suggestion to your problem with the cables - you might try to 're-flow' them. Please look it up on the internet (YouTube) how to do it. It will not be an easy job - but finding these cables will also be difficult. Succes!

My WDS is coming along really well and I now have three separate hard drives with various software,Jaguar ,Ford etc (thanks to Motorcarman & Avos)

I've just acquired another PTU that I'm told showed an error 2217 when booting up, however, I've docked it so that it has external power but it wont boot, the second green light comes on but the screen stays blank.
I swapped the battery pack into the good PTU and that booted but came up with error 2217, the good battery pack was tried in the second PTU but it would still not boot, but this time the fifth orange light and the hard drive light lit momentarily.
Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Does anyone know a source for the Jaguar software that runs on the old FDS2000 system?
And if available does anyone have the pre-WDS Aston Martin software for the same machine?

I want to add my experiences here in getting my 2 PTU's up to speed:

First, thanks to this thread and both Bob (motorcarman) and Steve (xjrguy) for their guidance.

I installed the additional 128 MB Memory as outlined in this thread to each PTU - no issues and the PTU's are much, much faster than before.

I sourced some 6.4 GB HDD's and I have enough of them to get Ford 43 on it's own HDD and the same for Jaguar 43 - so each PTU will have 2 HDD's I can swap since Ford 43 has some good functionality and I have just about all the specialized cables and test adapters I purchased prior thinking I could use them w/ Jaguar 43.

Now, I'm off to rebuilding one of my battery packs as it's non-responsive to the battery conditioning function in WDS. (battery condition program runs for about 30 seconds then my screen goes blank and the PTU beeps until the battery totally drains which is about 90 seconds)

At least I can get the PTU to load and WDS up with no issues as long as the PTU is docked.

Hi all

Does anyone know of anyone who deals in spares for these WDS machines.
Companies, hobbyist etc anywhere in the world?

I now have two faulty base stations due to these cables & need replacements.
Fixes to them only last a week or two due to the cables flexing when you dock or undock the PTU. Maybe I can get new ones made etc etc.
Any idea anyone please. Thanks.

I have a docking station available - but am going to first offer it to whomever wants to buy my PTU - if they don;t want it then I'll be stripping it for parts to support my other WDS docking station and may let the cables go.

Hello,

I have purchased 3 new 4/3 recharable battery packs from Digikey, and soldered them together after reading through this thread. Two of them worked for the first couple of times, but it appears as is tif hey wont charge in the PTU, and I get error message 2217.

One battery does work, and recharge. Does anyone know where I can buy a new battery pack circuit board, or where I can get the battery circuit boards repaired?

All input is welcome.

I see that you have a NORTH TX location.

If you are local to Decatur TX I can make copies for you and discuss the use if you have not used it before for Jaguar.
