I split the case on my INOP PTU and removed the heat sink. I need an address to ship to.
I will PM you for more info.

When you open the case it would be a great time to install 128mb more memory.

(MUST be PC66) PC100 is SUPPOSED to be backward compatible but it is NOT for these machines.

I went through a few before I found one that worked but it really improved performance.

That's the plan. I got hold of one stick of Kingston memory that specs out at PC66 and 128mb, but it won't even power up with it installed. I'll have to get the specific version mentioned earlier in the thread.

When the memory 'stick' is incorrect, the PTU will NOT boot-up.
Even though the advert stated PC66, I found that many advertisers were misleading or lying.

Cheap enough to get a few from different advertisers.

should’ve sent my 32mb stick with the cables. one of my ptu’s dimm slot is busted and it has all kinds of weird behavior when i use extra ram.

64mb is more than enough for WDS. the 430tx can’t cache more than that anyways.

For the first time I tried to click on the propshaft vibration analyzer option on the WDS for a X350 but soon I found out I do not have all the components for it. It asked for:

- OBD 2 cable B203 (I have)
- Cable C252 (I have)
- Cable C253 (I have the cable but not the corresponding component)

My questons are:
- is there anybody who has worked with the complete kit and was it useful
- how does the missing component look like?
- has anybody one who is willing to let it go ( dare to ask)

Edit:
I know SDD has got a vibration analyzer as well but does anybody know it you need extra components for that besides a working SDD with Mongoose?

Are you missing the B203 cable?

Or is it whatever is at the other end of the B253?

The 252 cable is used with the vibration sensor which can either be used independently for vibration analysis or with the driveshaft balancer tool for out of balance diagnostics.

The 253 cable is the interface adaptor cable for the driveshaft balancer tool. The balancer tool is an optical adaptor and is used in conjunction with the vibration sensor to diagnose driveshaft balance issues.

Unfortunately I do not have a picture of the balancer tool.

I used the vibration tool ONE TIME at the request of Jaguar Technical Hotline to diagnose a vibration in a car in warranty.
Never needed it otherwise.

Default A little help please

Howdy Folks, its been a while.
Last summer, I was able to buy a non-functional WDS docking station and PTU.
I tried to resurrect the blown power supply. (must have been spectacular when it blew) After replacing transistors, (the magic smoke left them), a few capacitors, and the fan, the supply was still dead. I eventually bought a basic ATX supply and an IBM laptop power supply that put out 16v, 7.5A. I wired it all together to make a single cord solution.
I removed the dead back up battery from the PTU motherboard, and installed a socket for the back up battery. Got that installed, and the PTU would not boot.
So I bought some robot vacuum battery packs, dismantled them, dismantled the PTU battery, and frankensteined a battery that now had me a working PTU and docking station.
Also had to buy some cables, and I am getting more, and hopefully upgrading the ram shortly.
The system boots, and can read the CD and the floppy, I am getting there.
After reconditioning the battery about 10 times, the PTU will run for over an hour on battery alone.

The PTU and docking station were originally for Mazda, but I would like to get it to be multi-vehicle.
To do that, I would need to get a larger hard drive and load up separate partitions.
It seems that no partition can be more than 4 GB? Is that right? So a 16GB or larger hard drive would work.
If I go the compact flash route, I wonder if the system will run slower. There isn't a lot of writing, mostly reading, so I am uncertain.
Of course to get this all going, I am in need for some CD ISO images. The thread alludes that there were some images posted at a download site.
Its been almost ten years, is that site still available? If not, is there someone who can make the images available? I will compensate them for doing so.
Thanks for any assistance that can be given.

The Pentium I BIOS will recognize up to 8gb HDD.
I use a Compact Flash Card with a 44 pin adapter for EACH vehicle software.
I have a FORD CF card, a Jaguar CF card and an Aston Martin CF card although I never needed the AM software.

I also leave the PTU docked and the back cover OFF so I can disconnect the battery and swap out CF cards if I need to.

Jaguar WDS 43 will NOT fit on any HDD less that 4gb. I had a spare 3.2gb HDD and it never finished installing WDS 43 before I got the message that the HDD basically ran out of space.

Ford WDS (any version) will fit on a 3.2gb HDD

Don't know the minimum for Aston Martin 2005 software.

Never tried to partition a large drive. Windows 98 'crashes' so often that reloading Windows is a regular thing so I keep backup copies of all the vehicles.

I guess I could 'GHOST' a DVD and copy to a CF card to save time?(instead of 3 CD discs for Jaguar WDS)

Thank you very much Motorcarman, that is very kind of you. Thank you for the heads up about the partition sizes as well.
I found this gadget on Amazon, and hope that it will make mounting everything inside the PTU that much easier.
Amazon Amazon
I plan to only have one CF card though.
As for making a DVD, I would not want to trouble you that much. I am fairly computer savvy and can work with the CD ISOs.
Oh speaking of ISOs, this docking station came with a B40N CDROM. It has the Mazda logo, and is dated 09/13/06.
Would anyone like me to make an ISO of it available?
Thanks again.

So finding an A-204 cable is a bit of a challenge. But I thought to modify an "A" self-test connector. Is there a wiring diagram for the A-204 somewhere?
I would think that all of the cables have identification pins, so that the PTU knows what is connected. Thanks
