Girlfriend lost both key fobs
So my question is about getting replacement keys. Yes I let my gf drive my car though I should know better based on past experiences. She somehow managed to lose both keys for 2009 XF. I see different opinions on how to replace the keys. I read that I would need two keys and not just one. Is it true I could not just get the one key or do zi need two? Is it ok to buy the 80 dollar keys off ebay that are 315 mhz? Then on ebay I noticed 100 dollar key programmer that says works for my car. Will these work to program myself. Thanks so much for taking time to answer.

Please take the car to the dealer, or a very experienced lock smith. Because if you don't, you could end up like I did, and locking up the security system. Ford's Passive, Anti, Theft, System, aka, PATS. I used a Snap On programmer which was supposed to be able to program the keys. After 3 attempts it said I was successful. Unfortunately afterwards I was unable to get the car to crank over. Once the system is tripped, the dealer has to unlock the system by connecting with Ford. And having them reset the system. I would have been wise to let them program the keys in the first place, but no I had to try and save a few dollars. It would have cost me $120.00 for the keys and programming. In the end it was quite a bit more, before it was all over. Lesson learned. Oh by the way, I'am an ASE Certified Master Technician, so I'm no stranger to working with a scan tool. but it seems the Ford PATS, system is very finicky about which scan tools it will play nice with.
