Pj, unfortunately, what you are experiencing is a common issue with the 3.0L and 5.0L motors The plastic piping is known for experiencing thermal stress cracking and failing like you saw. Where you may have made a mistake is continuing to drive the car after the first overheat. It has been put out widely here on this forum that if you have any sort of cooling issue with these motors to not run them. The blocks and heads are made from aluminum and getting them too hot easily leads to warping of the heads and/or the block, which then leads to loss of compression and serious engine issues.

Based on what you describe, the first check I would do is determine the compression in each cylinder. This will tell you if the block/heads are warped and potentially if serious damage has been done. Having 1 or more cylinders not meeting atleast 150 psi for the compression check would be a sign that things are warped and you have leakage past the head gasket. In this case, you may now have a big block of aluminum as a driveway ornament because the cost to repair the engine is going to well exceed the value of the car.

So, get the compression checked in all 6 cylinders and report back what you get and then we can give you a viable path forward. I am hoping that the compression check comes back good. But, what you say is not looking promising.

Then you warped the block and/or heads significantly and that will most likely result in you needing a whole new engine. Wait till you get the price for the engine. You will get a good appreciation for why people say "turn the engine off immediately on any overheat".
