HELP Needed. XKR 2007 Rear Brake Caliper - Which Way Do I Turn
Hi,
Just in the midst of changing the rear discs, come to push the piston back on the caliper and (being a total idiot) I have turned the piston both ways and now can't remember which way I need to turn the push the piston back. It is now extremely "closed up" and want to make sure my next turn is to push the piston back.
Which way do I turn the piston - working on rear drivers side caliper?
Any hlpe will be most appreciated.

Gambler, if I remember right, you will want to turn it clockwise as you are pushing in. I would also recommend opening the bleed port to make pushing the piston in easier. Otherwise you are fighting to push the fluid all the way back to the master cylinder and that is a royal PITA.
Having helped with an XJ8 brake system and rebuilding my X-TYpe brakes many times, even if you turn the piston too far, all you have to do is to get the piston square to the caliper and the screw it back on. No crime no foul. Just have to make sure that you get the threads properly lined up (ie, not cross threading). With the bleed port open, it will screw on with no issues.

Hi Thermo
Thanks for the info
Yes, it is clockwise.
I had a stubborn piston, it would just not go back, despite a qrtr turn back etc.... I ended up unscrewing the piston totally, then relocating it in the thread, worked fine then. but I needed to bleed the bleeding brakes then. overall it took me about 10 hours to do an hours job. Anyway I know what to do next time. As you say it would have made it easier with hindsight to loosen off the bleed nipple
Cheers for the email
