Hi all, have searched the threads and made a few inquiries with no joy so I thought I'd throw it out there. Does anyone have a download of the IDS 118.5? I'm just getting my Rotunda VCM and anxious to play with it! Thanks much.
A simple search finds several places to download IDS for free??
This is for version 121. Any reason you want V118? IDS Download
Here is 118 and other version but requires a license. There are ways around that and the V121 I posted appears to NOT require a license? IDS 118

Excellent. Looked several places with no luck before posting. Guess I looked in the wrong places! My cars are pre-‘96 vintage and I understood that V118 was all that was needed. I’ll try the 121...thanks much!!
Glad to help!
I did recommend the later version but I would do some digging just to be sure 121 will work on your cars. It helps to post what car/cars your working on too. My experience with Jaguar software is it's intelligent enough to know if the version your using will work and tell you so. When working on earlier cars if I plug in my SDD. The box comes up and says something like "This vehicle can't use SDD. Stand by while IDS is loaded". So backward compatible most of the time.
Plus they have downloadable images all setup which makes it an easy install on your laptop. One thing I will say is all of it is poor software very clumsy and awkward to use. So PATIENCE is number one. If you do the install yourself instead of using an image this will become apparent!

IDS was introduced in 2006 as IDS42. (at the same time as WDS42)
IDS 118.5 is the LAST version of the software.
SDD was introduced as SDD119.
There is NO ADVANTAGE to use SDD on X308, X300 and all early X100s.
When you have a sufficient number of posts you can PM me for access to IDS118.5 software.
If a Rotunda VCM is available, WHY use SDD when there is NO ADVANTAGE?
It will NEVER work with early cars. It is cumbersome when you know exactly what you want to do but you must 'jump through hoops' to get there.
The 'pass-through' devices need SDD125 or later but must revert to 'legacy IDS' to communicate with early cars.
People report issues with getting the SDD to revert to 'legacy IDS' at times.
I retired from the dealer (2006) before SDD but I used WDS and IDS EXTENSIVELY to great effect.
I bought a DrewTech Mongoose Pro and I tried SDD 130. WORST THING that I ever tried to communicate with the early Jaguars!! (I sold it)
It did revert to IDS but...................
I went back to WDS and then found a Rotunda VCM with cables. Loaded IDS and I was back in my comfort zone.
SDD was developed to guide mechanics (mostly novice and IDIOTS) through the diagnostic process.
The cars got complicated and too many mechanics were incompetent at diagnosis. The idea was to stop mechanics from 'throwing-parts' at the problem and diagnosing the actual fault.
Symptom Driven Diagnostics provides a 'HOLD MY HAND AND I WILL GUIDE YOU THROUGH THIS PROCESS' type approach to problem solving.
The mechanic provides the SYMPTOM in a drop-down menu and the software starts the diagnostic process. It does NOT CARE what you think, it wants you follow procedure.
If you are a skilled diagnostician, you can take shortcuts with WDS/IDS. (jump ahead) SDD expects you to follow the pre-planned agenda.
Good to know! I have not had any problems with SDD falling back into IDS when needed BUT I have very limited experience with that as everything I have been working on tends to be in the SDD model range. In fact I was not ready for the switch when I worked on a 2006 XJ. Took me by surprise as I had never read that SDD could even do that.

Do you have IDS and SDD installed separately so your ready for wide range of years?
I may want to install IDS only and not rely on SDD properly dropping back for use on older cars.

I've never had any issue launching IDS from version SDD 125.2 and I now have SDD 130 and 145 set up on separate hard drives. All of them launch IDS with no issue. I haven't programmed any modules with IDS in a while but no issues when I did. No issues updating CCF and certainly no issues with DTC codes.
Having said that, hopefully @xalty can elaborate on what's broken as he knows his stuff.
I prefer IDS because I know what I'm looking for (usually:-)
I just have "Tabman" (shortcut to launch IDS) on my desktop. It can be found in the runtime folder.
I bought the original Rotunda VCM and after several tries I couldn't get v118.5 to launch but I think there was a corrupt file. I reloaded the OS and then went to 125. I just got 130 and 145 and will give them a go in the spring.
Thanks Sean W.. I am running SDD 160.xxx.
So far no trouble dropping back to IDS but I am also interested in xalty's info if he can post back on this thread?

I happily found full ISO image of Jaguar DVD IDS 118.5 V5 Patch 11 (DVD ISO is inside 7zip file here: 6. Jaguar DVD for IDS 118.5_V5 Patch11.7z )
I had Windows XP SP2 ENG + SP3 update files. So I spend some few days to search working drivers for Panasonic CF-18 PC (PN: CF18KHH65LE) ie Gen 1 Jaguar IDS Laptop.
In addition to IDS 118.5 V5 Patch 11 installation includes ready installed EPC (Electric Parts Catalog), JTIS (Jaguar Technical Information System) and Technical Guides (from JTIS21).
Get images as ISO for boot CD/DVD and USB Stick, and you are able to run IDS 118.5 in a couple of hours.
You need to boot laptop from external CD/DVD and restore backup from USB to internal hard drive. Hard drive min size is 16GB.

pps. Unfor now my device is bricked due BIOS password was set. I decided to change BIOS battery, and that was mistake. Laptop lost its settings and requires BIOS password to boot - which me and previous owner no have . BIOS password reset by CMOS/Battery disconnect and WDS BIOS Password ("dmwhjw") doesn't work. Does anyone know if Jaguar had standard BIOS password for IDS Laptops?
Our UK friends have a number IDS/SDD images and they are a very quick way to install.
I just checked and the files are still good and it's a good thread to read thru for help. IDS/SDD Images

To be exact there are only SDD Virtual images, not IDS. But that's OK for me. But ...
OP updated site 14th Aug 23 and I can't find download link for SDD virtual machine images nor setup DVD - can you?
