inertia switch

Default inertia switch

2003 S-type. Won't start, keys won't open doors, etc.. Heard it could be inertia switch. When trying to reset, nothing happens meaning switch seems not to work. What is best way to take the panel off so I can get to the switch?

Inertia switch usually just disables the fuel pump. Everything else should work. The engine should want to start, it just wont turn over.

thanks for your reply. I read on these threads that inertia defective would disable key from opening doors, etc.. The car turns over and tries to start but feels like not getting a gas. And, if I try to engage the inertia switch, shouldn't the switch feel like it goes down or is hard to push down. Mine feels like a rubber ball that goes down easy and comes back up to the same location.

Did your key open the doors (& boot/trunk) before this?

You may have a failed fuel pump or some problem related to fuel.

If not, you will have code(s).

The inertia switch as posted above just disables the fuel pump due to a hard impact. It does NOT stop the car from turning over or cranking. Nor does it have any connection to the keys or getting inside the car?

Start with the basic's first?
Do you have fuel pressure?
Do you have spark?

How did the car get into this situation? Purchased at an auction for cheap? Fast flip?
You can't shot gun parts as this is a modern complicated car.

Can you DIY the repairs?
