Keyless entry - is this strange behaviour or normal?
Sorry for double posting (also in X260 forum), but hoping someone can help me before my Jag dealer (from whom I've just bought the car) tcalls me tomorrow about it (it is in the shop right now being looked at) .
So, if the keys are nowhere near the car, and anyone touches a door handle, the LED headlights start to buzz and the TFT dash starts to warm up (goes from black (totally asleep) to grey (waking up mode). The LED headlights then continue to buzz for the next 2 mins even if you walk away from the car.
I've made sure the keys are out of range, and in RF bags to be double sure.
I'd be very grateful for any feedback from owners with Keyless entry since I want to understand what is 'normal' before the Jag dealer calls me tomorrow with an update (he will be keen for me to take the car back)

Welcome to the forums cbarr,
Both my XK and F-Pace are keyless entry. With the doors locked and alarm set, when the smartkeys are out of range, the vehicles are completely inactive if the door handles are pulled.
Jaguar security systems can and do vary across World markets but that is the way a UK (European specification) Jaguar behaves.

I can't recall another report of this being posted on the forum. The opposite situation where the vehicle won't recognise the smartkey is usually the problem. The dealer will have to use JLR diagnostics to troubleshoot this by searching for relevant security locking module fault codes.
We do have occasional reports of problems where the vehicle doesn't go into 'sleep' mode when locked. The result is a partially discharged battery with miscellaneous error codes and difficulty starting. You may have this type of fault where the modules don't shut down and are remaining 'active'.
I'll be interested to hear what they find.

Been at Jaguar today. The car didn't reproduce the fault (an intermittent electrical problem - the worst kind!) but they said the behaviour I described wasn't normal. The car has gone back in for them to look at tomorrow. They are going to charge and test the battery, reflash the software in the body control unit and reprogramme the battery monitor module.
Of interest, the battery was changed in late 2021 (for a Sep 2018 reg car). That seems really soon for a battery. Perhaps the previous owner had problems and tried a new battery in the hope it might fix it?

That would be a very short life for a battery. Average is 3 to 5 years and longer if a CTEK is used but early failure is not totally unknown on the forum.
The vehicle will have to go on JLR Pathfinder diagnostics to reprogramme a module and this will also show up any relevant stored error codes.

The outcome: My XF was still less than a week out of the dealer. They first told me 'no fault found' but after I explained the symptoms again they agreed to do a deeper diagnostic.
Battery was checked and charged: outcome = good battery
No faults found on Battery Monitor Module
No faults found in Body Control Module.
After updating the software in the Body Control Module, a fault code for the Voltage Quality Module (VQM) showed up. They said this was a possible culprit and had ordered a new VQM.
Only problem was that since the fault was intermittent, it would be quite possible it would not rear its head again until after my 14 day return period was up. And there was no guarantee a new VQM would fix it.
So with a very heavy heart, I returned the car to the garage for a refund. A sad day indeed. But a modern Jaguar with a with an intermittent electrical fault was not part of the plan! So my first jag lasted less than a week... It was a beautiful car nonetheless (XF Sportsbrake First Edition V6). .
