Lumppy, from the sounds of things, you either have a bad starting relay or a bad starter. What you can do is connect up a multimeter to the post of the relay running down to the starter and watch the multimeter as you attempt to start the vehicle. If the multimeter jumps up to above 11.0 VDC, then you have either a bad starter or the cable between the starting relay and the starter is bad (you can differentiate between the two by repeating the check using the large post on the starter). If you don't get over 11.0 VDC on the output of the starter relay, you have a bad starter relay or the wire between the starter relay and the battery is bad.
