Not sure what to use yet....but I did read in alldatadiy....that they said not to use brake cleaner....because the maf was coated with something from the factory....and that this would remove that coating.....

Use a cleaner made specifically for cleaning the MAF. Available at auto parts stores.

MB, you want to let the cleaning fluid run over the wires inside the MAF, but you don't want to spray them directly. They are fairly fine and directly spraying them has a chance of breaking the wires. They do make special MAF cleaners that come in a spray can, but you can get away with carb cleaner if you don't have any MAF cleaner.

Just make sure that you get all the fluid away from the wires prior to starting. If you don't, it can cause the MAF to sense the wrong air flow and lead to other issues.

MB, yes, you want to spray into the hole in the center of the sensor. Just make sure to bounce the spray off of the wall of the hole.

haha that is my MAF. I would sell it to you at a good price, it was the cheapest one on eBay. And IIRC that is the backside of the MAF, you would spray the other side i.e. the induction side.

Small world, ain't it? I was looking on eBay last night, and found an add for a sunroof assembly. The guy lifted the picture from my webpage to peddle his goods with.

thanks carguy for the picture! haha just so i dont mess anything up. all i do is take off the sensor spray the crc maf cleaner into the hole only on the sides not directlly down. About how long should i let it dry before re installing? and about how much crc should i spray in? i had a xj-6 before the xjr and it seemed stuff was always breaking so im just being cautious. Ive had pretty good luck with xjr so far!
