Default Modern Automatic tranny for vintage XK 3.8 or 4.2?
Are there any modern 5 speed and up that would be used to replace the GM 3 speed automatic tranny?

It is so much easier to help you provide information about your vehicle and yourself.

A Google search will show other vehicle retrofits for the ZF 6HP28 and 8HP,
