If it's a shock and not a strut just dig in without the repair manual. Just be careful if you need to remove any plastic fender wells they break easily and are often attached with cheap plastic fasteners. If it's a strut and your not experienced and don't have proper tools have it professionally done. Struts can be very dangerous some of the coils on the strut are compressed to 1/3 of their extended length. If you have to buy the coil and shock of the strut seperated you would have to compress the coil to assemble the strut. Hope that helps and be safe

Front shocks on your X300 model are separately mounted to the springs, and reasonably easy to replace, although beware of rusted up nuts and bolts ! Your rears are a strut with springs mounted concentric to the shock as posted by 'skipracer', so if you ever need to replace these, you will need a spring compressor.

I don't care what kind of car I've got I'm not trying to pay a mechanic to do my shocks. I didn't even notice it my friend in the passenger seat did. I don't really think its bad at all but I'm going to open a can of worms by leaving it the way it is I want to fix the problem.
