If you have a scanner that you know either works, or doesn't, please add to this thread, provide a link if you can, and i'll update the 'master' list here accordingly. If it only does basic Engine and Transmission codes, please let us know. There are so many sensors that the Jag dealer software can read, there are not many aftermarket ones that can.

Take a look at all of the sensors covered by the AutoEnginuity unit.

Please place the vehicle year and model that you know it works well with if you would.

I use an INNOVA 3100 which has read the generic codes on my '02 XK8 without any issues. Never had the occasion to read the P1xxx codes other than P1000 and P1111. It has freeze frame recording and the ability to upload to a PC based log with supplied software. I caught it on sale for about $80. While I would recommend it, the freeze frame data is not absolutely necessary for the hobby mechanic. Coincidentally, there is an used one on eBay at the moment with a bid of $25 with one day left.

I would appreciate a comment on the OBDII to USB converters with supplied software that are available for about $25. Anyone tried them? I might, just to see. Enquiring minds want to know.

What is the difference between them and the AutoEnginuity generic system for $250?

 

Nothing is perfect however, the one I got from Costco called CodeKey and it has given me every code that my software obd reader did on my 95 xj6, 99xk8 and my 96 Toyota rav4. With your comment I will continue to double check the results. I did find it to be a handy tool to have. Sorry, but until it gives me a bad indication I will not be giving it up. I have usb computer interface that I check it with and it has not let me down yet.

 

I just bought a Equus 3100. Where is the port that I hook it to in order to run the scan?

 

It is in the bottom of the dash at the driver door directly above the hood release lever. Run your hand down the edge of the dash and you will find it.

the TOPTQK is the one i use....works on mine every time....i actually have made back the 60 dollars it costs by reading other vehicles codes for people. 10 dollars a pop adds up real quick. My uncle actually saved 500 dollars at the dealer because i wrote the info down for him before he went. Sooooo there you go.

Are all Innova 3100's the same? One on eBay right now that I'd like to bid on, but this statement I found on the net makes me wonder whether they upgraded over time without changing the model number:

"Since its inception, the popular INNOVA 3100 has seen an array of new features added to it that end-users have requested, such as: C.A.N. (Controlled Area Network) compatibility, color-coded Emission Status LEDs, PC-Link reports"

This makes me wonder whether, for instance, earlier versions of the 3100 may not have had CAN compatibility... any comments?

I hesitated listing this response to the OBD protocol but I feel it is necessary. The necessity is to enlighten anyone who is inclined to purchase this OBD II device. The device is called ProScan listed under www.myscantool.com. Now I need to tell you that I purchased this item based on a referral and did not do any research and did not feel I needed to do so based on the referral and who I got it from. Shame on me!

When I received the unit I had problems connecting to the vehicle and it did not work properly all the time and so I went to the "contact us" on ProScan web page and sent a message and expected to receive a response. No response! Sent another, no response! Elected to use the eSupport and received a less than adequate response. At that time I became more frustrated and elected to send it back. Knowing the problems I had making contact I used the return receipt option from the post office. I received the receipt with the confirmation that they got it. Well several months later, no repaired unit. I sent several eSupport and messages to them and no response. At that time I was on fire! I did what I do best and acquired Mr. Gores contact information and phone number and told him personally how dissatisfied I was and explained my situation. He told me they never received the unit, I provided him with a copy of my receipt. He then told me that they found it and that one was in the mail to me.

Since then I had downloaded several updates and each time I run into different issues. Today it works on my 1999 xk8, 1995 xj6 and not on my sons 2000 s-type or my 1996 rav4. However, it did work on my rav4 and not on my 95 xj6 when I first got it. Go figure!

I know that I did a little rambling but I wanted to provide meaningful input to support my comment that I could not recommend this device for these major reasons and that is the lack of customer service and technical support.

 

I bought the KiWi WiFi for use with my iPhone. Seems OK but needs software from the App Store. I have the FuzzyLuke FuzzyCar App. Wasn't able to find info on a sporadic Failsafe Engine Mode. I haven't gotten the Failsafe lately so it may have worked itself out.

Available software appears targeted at the teenage pimped rod group rather than keeping your automobile in good order. Hope this improves before they grow up.

 

I have an Innova 3120, while it reads the codes in my 95 xj12 as generic (but still yet accurate), it doesnt seem to be clearing the check engine light?? I dont know whether its me or what though? It showed a p1441...and I changed out the purge valve, the code still shows?

I just bought an Actron CP9180 to chase a code on one of my other cars. I also tried it on my 04 S-Type just to confirm it works on that car as well. Seems to work and interface well with the S-Type.

I have the TOPTQK 280 that I use on my 2000 XKR.Reads the codes just like it should.

 

I recently purchased the ODBCOM scanner. It appears to do everything it promises. This one hooks up to a laptop or PC via USB as opposed to being a handheld. Scans & clears stored and pending codes, reports on internal test results, displays real time data in a number of areas, (O2 sensors, fuel trim, mas air flow, coolant temperature, mpg, etc) logs data, displays gauges and graphs. For $86.00, I call it a great deal. I have used it on a 98 XJR, 2002 Ford Escape and an Audi A6. Worked flawlessly on all three. Perhaps best of all, support is excellent. I asked some questions before purchasing and checked in after receiving it. Mike at OBDCOM returned e-mails quickly and was very helpful. A major contrast to the comments that Gus left regarding his device. I have read similar poor service reviews on others. Not this one. Thumbs up in my books. Check it out at: www.obdcom.com
