I agree totally, never hurts to emphasize the important advice, even though it may be obvious to some.

Default I have a OBDII

Here is a link to their web site: http://www.iequus.com/news/news.php?id=13

While I would recommend it, the freeze frame data is not absolutely necessary for the hobby mechanic. Coincidentally, there is an used one on eBay at the moment with a bid of $25 with one day left.

I would appreciate a comment on the OBDII to USB converters with supplied software that are available for about $25. Anyone tried them? I might, just to see. Enquiring minds want to know.

What is the difference between them and the AutoEnginuity generic system for $250?
I have a OBDII and it gives me the different codes, I would compare my reading to the mechanics expensive one and the same. I like it.

UPDATE:

The unit is now having connection problems, first noticed today.

Looking at the "AutoEnginuity OBDII" now.

The HK 327 clone may be only minimally useful.

>Hardware- ELM 327 worked perfectly on my 2003 XJ8 VDP
>Software- Proscan 5.0 flawless!! Worked just fine with this hardware bought >in HK for $17.00.

Bought the innova 3150.

Will report back, hoping I can turn off CEL with it.

Has anyone managed to successfully interface with the Autoenginuity ST06 and Jag specific module yet? Couldn't see anywhere in the posts whether there is still an issue or not. I've emailed Autoenginuity and asked if it is compatible with 1999 XJ8 V8 but, as I've seen in other posts for this on other forums, no response which concerns me that if I have a problem with the product, I'd never get an answer directly from the manufacturer.

Read my codes, and yes, turned off the CEL p0455 code!

try calling their techline....someone will answer M-F 7am -5pm 1-480-827-8665 . The ST-06 with enhance Jag interface does clear RCM codes. I picked up a used RCM module that had not recorded any hard crash codes, but the longitudinal acceleration threshold exceeded code was set. I replaced my RCM with the used one while debugging an airbag issue and the ST-06 cleared that code, no problem. I am dealing with an AE Engineer to isolate the cause of an anomaly that surfaced while debugging an OPS issue in 06 XJ8. The ST-06 pointed to ultrasonic sensor #4 ( passenger B-pillar) while the AutoLogic system correctly identified ultrasonic sensor # 2 ( passenger instrument panel sensor) as the faulty sensor. I replaced the sensor and the problem cleared itself. The OPS communicates with the RCM via local CAN bus and is a sophisticated subinterface. I think the AE software bailed out on the first enumerated value of the OPS PID code which corresponds to ( sensor #4) Working with their tech support I collect an engineering trace of their ST-06 and sent the output to AE support. The owner of AE ( Jay H.) assured me that they will get to the bottom of the issue and I trust that they will. $500+ is a steep price to pay, but that's what I needed to work through the issues that I was dealing with. There was an AutoLogic unit on ebay listed for $8000, but the subscription cost was unknown and the logistics to get twenty or so Jag owners to form an LLC to share the purchase price and share the use of such a sophisticated unit is a pipe dream. Although, I haven't touched my ST-06 for two months since all issues are cleared...

Thanks for the reply and details of an outstanding issue they're dealing with Bob. I didn't try the tech line, just the sales line. They replied yesterday saying the ST-06 and enhanced Jaguar expansion would suffice, but didn't actually answer my direct question of whether it would interface correctly with my 1999 XJ8 (which is more of a tech question anyway).

At the moment, it is a nice to have rather than a need to have, but know I will be needing something eventually (proactive). I will wait a couple more months, and see if they do indeed get to the bottom of the issue you raised, which shows they are dealing with issues from customers feedback.

It's a nice package at a nice price for what it does , if it does it. Sounds like you're happy with it in general though Bob, which is encouraging :-) (wish I could get smileys to work in Google Chrome). I'll keep monitoring reviews and comparisons for a couple of months before deciding.

Thanks again.

I use an ELM327 with Bluetooth and the torque application on my Android. The software works well, easy to setup and operate on my Jaguar 2003 S-Type.

The connector on the Jaguar side is above the knee, drivers side. When the ELM327 is connected, it points straight down, but one could still drive with the ELM module connected. The unit cost me $26.70 including shipping and handling from Amazon, and the only grief I have is, it would be nice to have documentation on how to use it to better understand what some of the readings mean.

I have one of the elms (HK knock off) worked for a while, going for the elm 5 next. ElmScan 5 Compact USB OBD-II Scan Tool & OBDWiz Engine Diagnostic Software 42300 | eBay

The best thing to do is to scrap the software they include, its pretty much a waste. I used proscan 5 instead for the software.

Torque can be downloaded directly to your Android phone using the Marketplace as the search engine or download from internet or even by using bar code scanning.

Default Snap On MT2500

Searching this forum has produced 4 threads that refer to the Snap on scanner but with out any specific info if it has worked or not. Anyone have any info on using this scanner on any model or year of Jaguar? Specifics such as what cartridge, keys, and adapter would be appreciated if it worked.

Snap On doesn't support this tool any longer, but used bits and pieces can be found pretty easily.

I got the obdcom, i prefer devices that tie to the pc. I pasted the output from the unit below for anyone that wonders how the obdcom works on the jag.

I got a 2000 xj8 with a new trans off craigslist for 1,000 that had a blown right secondary chain. After the chain went the owner threw their hands up.

I just finished replacing all chains and tensioners, did a comp test all looks good.

Hooked up the brand new obdcom and saved the messages, then cleared them and saved them again.

Keep in mind the car has no plugs radiator etc in it yet, just buttoned it up for a comp test before finishing it off, in case i had to pull the heads for a bent valve.

PS my work encrypted my laptop and obdcom would NOT work with it. Had to get my dell mini netbook and use it instead.

Heres the first set of codes then i cleared them all

Pardon my lazyness to not read all posts in this thread but I figured this is the best place for my question.

What is the name for the factory diagnosis scan tool that the dealer ship uses?

I have purchased clone's for other vehicle brands with out issues, I'm hoping I can do the same with jaguar but I cant find the correct name.
