OBD-II Auto Enginuity UpDate
The system I just purchased from AE only supports non-OBD enhanced data. While the data is mostly the same as generic OBD data, it does not include onboard system test/ drive cycle data, O2 sensor graph data, and Mode 6 Report data. I talked with the AE tech on the phone and said it had to do with the pins on the new ProLine VCI and as a result it only supported the Jaguar enhanced data. In talking with my Jaguar mechanic, his older version (he may have had an AE OBD-II connector) of AE does both. It might be possible to use another connector with the AE software.

All vehicles built after 1996 are or should be OBD2 compliant, it's the comlexity of the ECU that allows you to read some or all the systems in your car. Some manufactures let you read model, all the O2 systems, do tests, some do just the basis like RPM,codes, ect. it varies from model to model, manufacture to manufacture, even year to year. A 99 xk8 should be ok.

I have used GoPoint which is for iPad and iPhone, you can get most engine sensor readings but not all. I have used it on 2003 X-Type, 2003 STR, 2005 S-Type

GoPoint would be your most inexpensive option for the apple stuff but I have not tested it on your specific car, I have plugged it in to 100s of cars at the auction with no issues.

Thanks but you said it gets most of the engine codes -- does it get all of the other codes, too? In other words, if you go to the Jaguar Engine Module List page and see what sensors are covered there, does the GoPoint read all of those or just the basic engine codes?

This experience and nothing I've read to date puts me off upgrading to the current version with Jaguar expansion later this year. Except, of course, having to buy the whole package because AE don't offer an upgrade or discount.

I've got a six year old AE (the version before the Jaguar expansion option.) It's been used with my 2000 XJ8L, 2001 XK8 and 2005 XK8. No issues other than it can sometimes take more than one go to pair it with the vehicle.

Thus the standard AE will successfully read standard DTC from the XJ8 ECU once paired? Has the CAN complexity been worked around to allow this, or does the CAN only pertain to the Jag add-on?

AE
The AE works fine with 2006 XJ8. I had some trouble with AE properly identifying a bad Occupant Position Sensor. The tool reported and identified the wrong sensor. There are 4 sensors and I think the SW went though reverse order of the reported sensor status. I had a few email exchanges with Jay the owner of AE and offered to test a new code load, but he declined. The AutoLogic worked perfectly and identified the correct sensor. ... and it should, for the price. I thought the same about AE, but the stuff I was using it for was SRS related and most folks don't go there. I replaced the bad OPS sensor and the SRS system reset itself! The AE did reset a used SRS module that did not have a hard crash code set and it accurately identified seat belt pretensioners that were deployed.
I was told by AE techline that the Jag Specific SW CD can be shared amongst friends. If each person purchases their own AE ST-06 dongle, the Jag specific module ( CD ROM ) can be shared.
Maybe someone could double check with AE tech support to substantiate that claim.

I received an email from Bill at AutoEnginuity, spoke with Bill on the phone and then spoke with another tech. Bill was very informative as was the other tech. I cannot remember the other tech's name, but he literally walked me through every option they offer and answered all of my questions.
I read through this entire thread and have seen some claims pertaining to to the AE without any explanation. I asked specific questions to the techs today to further understand... To clarify:
All new AE's come with the ST06 interface. Proline ST06 is now the standard interface. In other words, even if you buy the standard scan tool setup, it still utilizes the ST06 interface, just like the Proline series.
AE now utilizes a dongle for security. They were hacked in China and implemented the dongle to mitigate further hacks.
Jaguar X308's utilize pin #9 as a 12V power source. AE had to make a decision whether to limit their interface's capability and allow the 12V through pin #9 or to provide support for Mercedes. Thus, they chose the latter. Unfortunately, this makes the interface useless for X308's unless the Jaguar enhancement module is used.
The ST06 interface combined with the Jaguar enhancement module will permit monitoring and control of the X308's sensors, computers, etc.
The ST05 interface does not work well with X308's and will have issues. Many people reporting issues with their AE communicating with their X308 have the ST05 interface.
Many people reporting issues with their AE communicating with their X308 and have the ST06, may not have the Jaguar enhancement module and/or are not following the instructions.
You can purchase a bundle Ford package (which includes the ST06 interface, Ford enhancement module and standard scan tool software) and the Jaguar enhancement module for nearly the same price as the regular scan tool plus the Jaguar enhancement module.
If you ever experience an issue with synching your AE program and interface to your car, you can call the AE techs and they will assist you. They will walk you through diagnosis issues, etc. All you have to do is call them.

FWIW, I found one of AE's vendors sells all of their products for less than AE sells them direct. I saved an additional $60 on top of the aforementioned bundle pack savings. Riffraff Diesel Performance is where you want to buy your AE setup. You'll still receive the AE directly from AE, just for less when purchasing through the aforementioned vendor. They sell the standard setup as well, but don't list it on their website because the Ford guys were getting confused when trying to order the bundle packs. If you want the standard AE scan tool, send Clay (owner) an email.
