ok guys hello and as always Happy Wrenching...but I bit the bullet as they say I purchased a Launch x431 autobook....these are a little expensive, new 1300.00-1600.00 depending on where you purchase..But my advice is to check out ebay.I found one that was purchased in 2009 new,and the owner sent me his password and new registration which allowed me to access the new 2012-2013 software upgrade. This unit will cover x/stype/xj/xf models....all engines.I got mine for 725.00 and the software which is usually 1000.00 annually was free...after searching nd being patient it was a home run.
Just to give you a idea as to how good the unit was,my driver door speaker stopped working, hooked it up and guess what? Even told me the speaker wire had a short..How cool was that...But it covers all body modules from doors, packing sensors, suspension, instrument cluster, checks radio main, and amp, checks windows,ac module, injectors, memory seats, acc, ecu codes, and the list goes on and on..Yeah it is a little expensive but worth it because of it ability to save cost in the long run by pinpointing various mechanical issues...I hope this has been helpful...until the next time..Happy wrenching, and may the Leaper live forever!

ok 1st thing 1st, has the unit been updated with the lastest software?Yes after the unit has powered up,hit the start, then go to gad scan, then chose the make ,then model, and year,as it cycles and downloads, you chose the software and application.while doing this make sure they key is to phase 2...and then start her up...it will give you the option to scan body, chassis,or engine..The latest software will ask you if you want a autoscan search or if you want to do a manual scan search..But once you chose engine scan the unit will ask you if you want to clear dtc codes,or live data...as for the engine management light on,you can actually make the unit scan the instrument cluster for mil faults within the cluster itself. It is really a very good unit.I can tell you now that the latest software has done away with the auto makers symbols and is replaced with just the text names only and it not only has 56 cars, but 61 cars worldwide now.

I plugged-in my UltraGauge for a day, to see of any codes were popping, and to look at my fuel trims. While I was at it, I set one of the screens to watch Boost and MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure).
Strangely, the "Boost" gauge showed a negative # under all conditions. as much as -14lbs, and under WOT it'd get to -2. So, I don't know where it's pulling "boost" from? I mean, IIRC, the car ('03 STR) SHOULD build 12-13 lbs boost, so the 12lb delta in the readings could be accurate, but it seems strange it is a negative #.
MAP showed something with a similar swing, but in the positive range (though I admit I paid less attention)
I also noticed some strange readings on the fuel trims: LTFT were changing as often as the STFT.
In shirt: I'm so far unconvinced of the compatibility between my UltraGauge and the STR.
Anyone have any other FHE with it?

run on the LINUX SOFTWARE.The autobook wont code, but only the Diagun,
and the x431 Master and DGS versions..(these can adjust your pm throttle, adjust your suspension height settings etc)The autobook is cheaper than the Diagun,it has bi directional capabilty and is bluetooth, and can do two cars at the same time.I didnt want that because it runs on a battery(more cost to own)They all do the same number of cars 61 worldwide in total(Plus it will translate in several languages). When you purchase if it is used, make sure you get the owners username and password because you will need it to do update on the www.x431.com site.Plus Launch custmer support wont help you without it.Make sure the ALL the orginal items come with the unit most importantly, the unit's serial number and access code which will appear on the registration slip. The unit has the capacity to run live data on all body modules, and graph the reading and allow you to save the recording.Once you get one,the software cost is 1000.00 a year, right now they are selling it for 600.00 a year.try to get one that hasnt expired...and this includes updates 2-3 weeks as many as you wish to download for that year.Let me say this,if you get a unit that is running on software from 2010 it will still cover your car,(x350 2003-2009 aswell as x type, and s type and some xf models)the latest will just mean that it may cover a code or engine that has just been implemented by the manufacturer that wasnt available in 2010.Ex.Mine will cover the 5.0 n/a 385hp xf and supercharged xf 420hp/510hp,but the 2009-2010 software will only do the 4.2 v-8 xf 300hp and the supercharged 4.2 -420hp, not the 5.0 -385hp versions does that make sense? So mine is good until Nov 2013 and covers ALL Jaguar modules and Landrover etc.Between the scanner and the original complete shop manual for the x350 that I have on thumbdrive it is really a cost saver for the DIY Jag owner. If I can help in any way keep me posted!
here is the price range Launch Autobook x431-1300-1600.00 new
x431 Master 1800-2500.00 new
x431 GDS 3000.00 -new
these are prices that I have seen advertised,I got mine for 725.00 off ebay used, and the previous owner purchased my latest annual software for me..So yes I got a great deal, and I was patient. It is a buyers market for now guys so a great time to catch that awesome deal.

In case anyone is looking for a deal on a pre-owned AutoEnginuity package, the transmission shop that just worked on my car is selling his < 6 month old AE scanner (w/ software CD of course) with both the Jaguar and Land Rover expansion pack licenses. I got him into a mongoose cable and SDD program instead, which he prefers.
He's asking $500 for the bundle, that's shipped. He says he has $900 in it for both expansion abilities. Send me a PM if you're interested.
