OBDII Code Scanners ** Member Approved **

Phil, I don't think you'll find a scanner to diagnose the air suspension from anything mentioned above. If you want that ability, check out the 'dealer clone scan tool' thread, where many have successfully used a chinese cloned drewtech mongoose cable and paired it with an older, genuine version of SDD/IDS (jaguar's tech software). The bundle can be had for $200-$300 total.

I've just got my ELM327 from Amazon for $24 Amazon.com: BAFX Products (TM) - BLUETOOTH - OBDII OBD2 DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER - CAN ELM 327 SCANTOOL - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAR CODE READER: Automotive. It's S-type 2005 v6.
It seems to work great with free Torque Android app in my phone.
Reads both live data and errors, however can't say for sure about the errors as it says that there are none. It reports one pending error P1000, it should change to P1111 I guess, but no idea yet how to do that transition.
Will consider getting paid Torque.

P1000 is a generic code that is always present until you run through a full drive cycle. So that is normal. It just means you recently reset power and the car hasn't had time to check everything in the system yet. Usually it takes a few miles.
I also have a Elim327. I've used it on a few Fords and Mazdas with the free Torque app on my phone. It's always worked great. Make sure you get the one from when you buy one. There are a lot of knockoffs out there. I have yet to try it on my 09 Jaguar XF but I'm sure I will eventually if there is an issue that pops up.

I bought a Memoscan U480 off ebay for a tenner, worked great on my 2004 XKR

This seems to work fine. It picked up the PWM protocol and scanned OK. There were no DTCs found, and six or so out of about 10 I/M monitors returned "READY", which is good. About four others returned "N/A". I pulled a couple of sensors and started briefly to try to force a DTC or two, but that didn't seem to do the trick. I didn't want to run for long with any sensors unplugged, so for the moment I'm going to pronounce it Working. It is interesting that OBD-II is present on a 1999 UK model, but I suppose that's high-end vehicles for you! VIN retrieval of course is not implemented.

Engine light not on, Can I still scan?
I want to know If I can still get codes even though engine light is not on? Car is not running properly. Goes into limp mode. I want to get it scanned but wanted to know if engine light needs to be on? As my engine lights on again off again but car still not right.
This list will serve as a reference for those owners who are looking to purchase and own their very own.

Take a look at all of the sensors covered by the AutoEnginuity unit.
Please place the vehicle year and model that you know it works well with if you would.
If you're scanner is already on the 'approved' list, but your car isn't, feel free to let us know in this thread.

I will try and add some screen shot of the autel maxi the reason I purchased it was just to read abs codes which came out to be a short in the wheel sensor wire the scanner picked it up right away also it read blown park light bulbs this scanner paid for its self there is a company in Michigan that sells the authentic autel scanner with a warranty and updates. And yes it will pull codes even if the check engine light is not on.

Einstein
I love Albert Einstein but I've also realized that Insanity can also mean: Doing the same thing over again, knowing exactly what's going to happen, and doing it anyway...
Nothing is perfect however, the one I got from Costco called CodeKey and it has given me every code that my software obd reader did on my 95 xj6, 99xk8 and my 96 Toyota rav4. With your comment I will continue to double check the results. I did find it to be a handy tool to have. Sorry, but until it gives me a bad indication I will not be giving it up. I have usb computer interface that I check it with and it has not let me down yet.

Car is constantly going into limp mode. I have it parked. Going to mechanic tomorrow. I don't want to know how to "clear" the codes. I want to know what the problem is. Here's the codes:

Hi Guys,
New to Jaguar,
New to this site,
New to Code-readers.
My Son has his first Jaguar (see sig) so we are both learning on it.
My mate also has his first Jaguar (X-type 2.5 2003 Petrol) which is showing P0171/0174 codes (see my own post; Codes: P0171 + 0174).
I recently bought an AUTEL 905 reader, and only used it a couple of times on these 2 cars, and only for the codes.
As far as I am aware, the reader seems fine, but obviously haven't used it to the full (understatement).
I now believe it to be a copy. I bought it from Amazon and had no idea that they would allow that. Be that as it may, I'm struggling to update it.
I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help me to do that please.
,,,, now,,,, back to my search for help on the codes,,,,

Thanks Tom. I called Innova this morning and they told me a lot of foreign cars require the car to be actually started.
Being a woman, :-) I had read most of the LONG manual and it specificly said NOT to start the engine. They need to change that in the manual. I'll try it again later today.
