Angry Oil change advice

Jaguar say they changed the oil and filter, 20 miles prior to this the photo. Am I right to assume it was not done? 2.0 Diesel

It depends.
If you have a diesel then the new oil will look like that after 20 miles.
If you have a petrol it will take a little longer, maybe 100 miles.

If the oil in my petrol driven car looked like that after 100 miles I would be seriously concerned.

Post #2 may mean GDI i.e. direct injection petrol.

In the struggle for better MPG there can be more particulates (roughly, soot) and tiny ones that get into the oil.

If that's a diesel, then as others say, it quickly gets black from what's left in the engine of the old oil. That's why I have decided to follow a yearly change rather than 2-yearly.

You have lost lost me, I can't find any mention of GDI in post #2 or anywhere else in this thread.
But the OP did edit post #1 to say it is a 2.0 diesel.

Welcome to the forums,

I see you have failed to post an Intro so it is equally possible that "Jaguar" failed to do an oil change. Before bursting into print on a public forum, my first action in the circumstances would have been to go back to the dealer who carried out the service and ask for an explanation.

You may have noticed there is considerable speculation in replies about the precise model of your Jaguar. If you had posted an Intro, one of our standard requests in reply is asking new members to add vehicle details to their forum signature to help others give relevant advice.

Graham
