griff you may want to post this in the xj40 section of this forum. You will get better results.

griff, odds are, one is a low point suction port, the other is a high point discharge. Personally, I would look at the internals of the bottle and see where the ports go. If one is high, one is low, then I would block the high port and only use the low port. Using it as you are with a high and a low port, you are going to air bind the coolant system if there is any leakage and you will end up hurting the motor.

Griff the exterior pipe (right as you look at this photo) goes to the radiator and the interior pipe would normally go to the thermostat housing, thus completing the hot water circuit.

There is no overflow tank on the later XJ40 tank you have here, it is a closed pressurised system.

BTW what is the kit you are building?
