R&R Cylinder Head
#2
There is a thread in the XJ6 section which is a great example. Clarke started with a suspect cylinder head gasket and ended up with a new engine. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...gasket-157830/
A more realistic approach may be to budget for 3-4 workshop hours to pull the head and determine where to from there.

I see you asked this same question in the E-Type forum in July 2015 with the additional information that the head has been removed and some damage is suspected:

Why the concern with the time required for cylinder head overhaul?

R&R Cylinder Head
yarpos,
Since removing the head last June, it has been to two machine shops, and finally diagnosed as un-repairable. I found another head, have had it rebuilt, and am now looking at re-assembly.
As mentioned in the original post, last year, the car belongs to someone other than me (thank goodness) and I am unsure of what a fair labour charge would be for the R&R of the head. I certainly can't charge for the actual hours spent, since, "I may be good, but I'm slow".
Hope this helps clear up the mystery.

Yes thanks. If I was the customer I wouldnt flinch at a 2-3 hours for removal and assessment. Maybe 3 to 4 hours to prepare, replace, do adjustments, close it all up and test. Thats all going well at a professional shop. Could easily be higher if the inevitable "while everything is apart" stuff is included, or a problem comes up.
Just an opinion FWIW. If I was doing it , at least double given experience with my estimates and my skill and work rate reality.
