Someone posted a video on the net IIRC something like
BMW DIY Power Supply for Programming (HP Server PSU Conversion)

The German engineer's video is quite interesting:
Please note that he is cobbling together, not engineering.
The single supply did not provide the expected power.
Filter characteristics are impacted by load, if you do this, check the ripple under load using an O'scope.

After watching the first video, it was followed by:
which was quite informative from a practical and cost over-run perspective.

Clean power demonstration, begins @ min 7:00:

If your talent and resources make the server power supply a practical option, excellent.
But for many, a project within a project will detract from the primary goal, SDD programming.
As an alternative, they might consider an Iota DLS-55, currently (Jan 2024) available new for $150-$200.

best regards,
Bill

I also use the iota DLS 55. I got mine used off eBay for about 100 bucks. I cut up a pair of jumper cables stripped the ends connected it up and did a couple tests with my oscilloscope and found that it has super low ripple just like the doctor asked for.

The DLS-55 that I have has a phone jack looking connection on the top plate that has a jumper cable connector which allows you to do a quick charge or a slow charge if it’s connected or not. But iota also sells these modules that you can connect to that phone jack connector that are special programmed charging cycles for AGM batteries or regular lead acid And others which is really cool and really useful.
The only thing I didn’t like was the lack of a display to show me what kind of I’ll put I was getting. So I bought one of those displays off Amazon and wired it up stick it in the little hobby box and mounted it to the top of the power supply and now I have everything I need

Just be careful if you get one when you connect your jumper cables up to the screw down connectors on the supply because I over tighten mine and I ended up destroying a little brass ring that’s behind those screws that kind of collapse is a little bit when you tighten the screw. Well I tightened it too much and I crushed it flat and now I have to try to figure out a way to get another one.

Here’s a picture of the voltage amperage wattage display that I installed

Very nice display! I just run blind with mine and occasionally check things with my multi-meter.

I built the HP power supply spec'd by the German engineer, adjusted to 13.5 VDC. Seems to be quite happy for SDD in my XK. Voltage on the mark under load, no heat on the cables.

Pics below are idling (noload).

Not having a scope, I could only DVM test it for AC millivolts. Anyone tested that HP design for clean power under load in a live environment?

Also, I don't have an ampclamp, so couldn't measure actual draw under load.

BTW, I chose to drill 6 mm holes on my spade cable connectors and bolt it on to my battery rather than use clamps. Thanks.
