Tire Warranties?

Tire Warranties?
The rear tires on my 2006XKR are down to 1/8" after only 12K miles of driving. They are Continental ContiSportContact3's.
I'm replacing them with some Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric's. Interestingly, Discount Tire will sell me a pro-rata mileage warranty for 45,000 miles on these new tires, for $25.
I figure the Goodyear's will be at 3/32 tread depth in 15K-20K miles or so and with the warranty I'll be able to ask for some new ones at half price.
Anyone done the same so far?

Let's say I wear them out halfway to 45,000 and they give me half of what I paid ($80.50) credit against MSRP of $247, so now I pay $166.50 for the replacement tire. Remembering that I paid $25 for the warranty, my total for the second tire is... $191.50.
It's not a terrible deal, and at least for my $0.50 I get insurance against other unrepairable damage.
I guess I only really get my money's worth if I can wear out the tire by 22.5K miles. Challenge accepted! :-)

one issue iv had is proving proper rotations of tires. or if you still have receipts will try to blame it on wheel alignment or abuse. even when i replaced them with a different tire and had good tire wear without doing anything different after the fact. i save my money by not paying for warranty's anymore. not even road hazard because 9 times out of 10 if you have a road hazard issue your not around the shop that installed the tires. and then they still prorate the tire and make you buy a second at full price because the tread life is more than x-32's difference.

It's a leading question, BTW.

Costco tire warranty
....a follow up to my previous post.
After having to replace several expensive tires purchased from other tire vendors, I went to Costco. I purchased 4 high speed rated tires for my XJR, I believe they were Michelins and purchased their tire warranty for $40 (total).
Well, it just so happened, within a couple of months, my bride hit a pot hole again. It bruised the tire so badly, a bubble appeared on the surface of the tire. Costco replaced the tire, no questions asked for $1.00, the cost of disposal. Happy Motoring.....
The following, in part, is from their warranty program. It just so happens, they offer the Bridgestone-Potenza S-04 Pole Position, for my '08 XKR.
"1. “Road Hazard Failure” is defined as a tire that becomes unserviceable due to cuts, non-repairable punctures or impact damage. Costco Wholesale will repair tires with tread-face injuries in accordance with established RMA (Rubber Manufacturers Association) standards."

I've always found Discount Tire to be absolutely straight up with the tire warranties through the various manufacturers. Regardless of who built the tire, they get on the phone with the tire company, open a case, and make it happen for me. I always keep my receipts, document my tire rotations (which I do myself), and take all records with me when I go to Discount Tire to enforce the warranty. No worries at all if you do it right and develop a relationship with them....
