Updated OEM Bluetooth Upgrade
OEM Bluetooth retrofit has gotten easier for Jaguars using the D2B fiber-optic system!
This post is applicable to X-Type, S-Type and XJ but based on my 2007 X-Type.
A combined PSE (phone support equipment) module and BTUM (Bluetooth upgrade module) is available. Part # 7W93-10D893-AB takes the place of the PSE and eliminates the need for the BTUM.
The new phone module is installed in place of the PSE module and also requires antenna and microphone connections.
Phone connector (PH1) and D2B fiber-optic connector (CD3) are located in the left side of the Boot, behind the trim panel in pre-wired vehicles. They plug into the phone module which is typically mounted in the electronics stack (bracket). If no stack/bracket or extended trim panel is present, the phone module will fit behind the standard trim panel.
The OEM installation includes a Bluetooth antenna located under the package shelf trim panel. Retail is $60 or so but there is a simple alternative. A Jaguar/European radio connector and coax cable can be adapted for use with the Bluetooth module. Remove the plastic shell from the radio connector to yield a smaller metal connector that fits the phone module perfectly. The coax cable can then be routed under the folding left rear seat hinge and under the door trim. It is not necessary to remove the door trim. Just tuck the coax up and under the door trim from rear to the front, beside the driver.
A dipole antenna can be fabricated at the end of the coax cable: Strip the coax outer jacket 31.25 mm, fold back the braid 180 degrees and tape to the side of the coax cable. Do not strip the center conductor. The result is a very effective ¼ wave antenna for 2.4 Ghz. It works very well located beneath the plastic door trim.
A microphone near the driver is required. I used the OEM overhead console mic from a parts car for convenience. The location is prewired. An inexpensive electret microphone will likely work as well.
(I’ll try one later and report back). The OEM windshield pillar mounted mic is another option.
Contrary to other reports, the console mounted mic has been very satisfactory.
If you have no VACM (voice activated control module) the microphone circuit must bypass that plug.
The VACM plug (PH2) is a 22way black connector located adjacent to the phone module in the left boot.
The bypass can be done using the voice activation shorting loop which is part number XR837852.
However, if you don’t have the shorting loop, it can be done simply using 22 ga copper (telephone) wire:
Use three 22 ga copper wires (green, white and yellow are recommended to maintain the color code), each 3-1/2” long, stripped 3/8” on each end. Fold each bare end back and crimp to form a 3/16” tab similar to the male plug pins. Insert the wires into the VACM plug:
Jumper Pin to Pin
Green 12 - 13
White 2 - 15
Yellow 1 - 3
The PH2, 22 way black connector is numbered on the back: 1, 11, 12, 22.
It will be necessary to program the system to recognize the bluetooth module using IDS.
Good luck with your upgrade.
Bill

Hello Jeff,
XF should be MOST vs. D2B for X-Types, S-Types, etc through 2008 MY.
The single module BTUM for D2B is found in 2008 MY Jags using D2B and dealer retro-fits.
Use the part number, 7W93-10D893-AB, to survey used parts yards or otherwise locate on-line.
best regards,
Bill

Upgrade?
Bill, I read your notes with regard to upgrading Bluetooth in an XJ. I have a 2007 XJ8 Vanden Plas with Bluetooth. Is your input instructions of how to install Bluetooth when it isn't already installed or is it a way to upgrade Bluetooth that is already existing in my vehicle? I'm always looking for ways to modernize the vehicle with current technology but think you're mainly talking about a new installation when Bluetooth wasn't previously in the vehicle.
I guess if you are truly talking about upgrading (improving) what I already have installed then the next question would be what is the difference between the factory installed Bluetooth in my vehicle and this upgrade.
I appreciate any input you may have.

Hello Dan,
I intended "upgrade" to mean "retro-fit". A true "upgrade" from the 2007 to 2008 would provide only marginal improvement. The newer module will link to several different phones automatically (first link connected only), without manually reconnecting. It may also be compatible with additional phone models. I would not recommend a year to year upgrade unless a repair is necessary or linking/sharing is a problem.
Best regards,
Bill

Hi Bill,
I know it's kind of an old thread, but have a quick question.
I work in service, at a dealership, and have been with Jaguar for about 20 years so I know my way around the vehicles...
I've not tried to retrofit an XJ before, but am going to give it a shot. I have the module (C2C37259 - same as the WERS number 7W93-10D893-AB). In JEPC it shows 2 more necessary parts, other than the harness, mounts, etc.
It shows the antenna (under the parcel shelf) and an interface module that goes in the centre console. From your posts, you mention nothing of the interface module; just the antenna. It does show the interface as being necessary for XJs all the way up to 2009.
Are you aware if this interface is needed, and what it does? P/N is C2C39062
I know this is stretching your knowledge, but there is a V.I.N. split for antennas (H24798 - 2008 XJ) and two P/Ns exist: C2C37084 and C2C38921.
You wouldn't happen to know which one works with this BT module by any chance?
Appreciate the info,
Dave
BTW, this is being done to a 2005 XJR

Hi Dan,
The answer would be "no". XJ changed completely in 2010, and the electronics are not compatible with your vehicle.
You should have no problems pairing, though. I've paired just about every kind of phone to your model with little difficulty, other than some Blackberrys.
Here is a link to Jaguar's website that shows the features that will work with your vehicle:
Vehicles - Jaguar
You will need the last 6 of your V.I.N.

Hello Dave,
Prior to the "all-in-one" 7W93-10D893-AB module, our cars used a PSE (phone support equipment module) in the trunk and a Bluetooth interface module located under the console. The wiring between the connector under the console and the PSE is not required for the new Bluetooth module. However, the yellow and green microphone jumpers at the PSE module are required.
The PSE was originally designed to work with a cell phone and the Jaguar emergency network. The cell phone was located in the console. The Bluetooth interface module was located under the console to take advantage of the existing cell phone connector/connection to the PSE in the trunk.
The combined module that you have replaces both the PSE and BIM.
I have no idea why the antenna changed. My 2008 XJ must have the earlier antenna. I curious as to the difference.
Best regards.

Hello Dave,
That is correct. In addition to the C2C37259/WERS 7W93-10D893-AB module, you need the antenna and the microphone jumper as discussed at the beginning of this thread.
The yellow/green jumper that I discuss is an alternative to the Jaguar part that serves the same function.
The antenna may be located on the parcel shelf or closer to the driver where convenient. I made a simple dipole antenna but there are several inexpensive Bluetooth antenna options on Ebay for less than $10.
Best regards.
Keep us posted on your success.

Thanks Bill. I work at a dealership so my cost on parts is fairly reasonable on some items, like the antenna. I don't know why I hadn't thought of looking on Topix at the workshop manual, but I did right after your post and it shows the diagnostic flow for communications. For the later model BT module it shows just the module, antenna and mic. I rarely retrofit anything so next time I'll be more prepared.
I won't need the jumper setup as I found a voice module at one of our wrecking yards. I hope my harness supports it. I actually haven't looked, but I already have rear entertainment installed so I'm hoping it's there.

Please tell me what advantage you get with this module over the older one that already that came with my 2007 XJR? I have an Apple iPhone6 and it paired up in a heart beat and always does every time I start the car. There is no waiting and it works every time. Now maybe the issue might arise if there are several people pairing a different phone that is riding in my car but that doesn't bother me. I just pair their phone and it will take which ever phone is connected. I just bought for 100.00 including the fiber optic cables a VACM. I figured it is the only way to go and for that little bit of money I cant lose. Thank you to all the people out there that have no ability to drive without getting into an accident. Heck, I have turned a B+ car into a A+ car with junk yard parts, including new front seat bottom cushions. Junk yard cars are a must have for all Jag owners!!! I found Jag Bits and Terry's to be more pricey than the dealership. I get 30% off MSRP, so when I need new I go to Jag. but mostly I find the parts on line or Ebay.

Collector1 if you are happy with the older one that already came with your 2007 XJR I would stick with it. The unit I used is supposed to be able to support several Bluetooth connections at the same time. I do not know whether your 2007 unit does or not? My phone connects in a heartbeat as well and I have not tried multiple connections as yet.

Updated method for OEM Bluetooth installation
After Jaguar converted the integrated D2B cellular phone system to Bluetooth, it still required two modules, a PSE (phone support equipment) module and BTUM (Bluetooth upgrade module) to install the bluetooth system in our non-phone cars. It was an expensive and PITA upgrade.
The title of my post "Updated OEM Bluetooth Upgrade" was intended to show an easier way to add bluetooth from scratch using a single module.
Although the newer module has the ability to link up to five different phones, I did not anticipate that anyone would want to upgrade an existing bluetooth system that was working fine.
Sorry if you were mis-led by the title.
Thanks to those sharing feedback about your successful installations.
Best regards,
Bill

On 06-07 they came standard with the Bluetooth module. All they did was add an additional VACM with a fiber optic cable and the system worked like a charm. It was actually very easy. It was hard and expensive for 2004-mid 2006 phone users because they didn't have the BT module already installed and the car was not prewired for the fiber optic cable for the BT module only the phone module. You only need one mic. for VIN change in 06 and up to 2007, the car was pre optic wired for the additional VACM to be connected via the fiber optic body harness. In 08 they went to the BT module with Voice command already put into one box and it would except MANY different phones instead of having to use only one phone and then when you changed users of the car they would have to go in and add their phone (which deleted yours).
