Wheel Hop

How old are your shocks. I would think that if your shocks are worn out, that it would allow the rear to bounce up and down fairly quickly, leading to the wheel hop problem. The other thing that I would look at is if you are getting abnormal tire wear. If you are getting dips in the tread, this can create a wheel hop issue too (ie, more rubber in certain areas of the tire and less in others, leading to less traction in small parts of the tire).
What year car are we talking about here? That may help other members give you more precise answers to your problem. The only car that I have been in that had a hopping problem was an 86 Charger Shelby. BUt, that was caused by the fact that the car had such good grip that when you launched, it would toss the front end up some, loose traction, then it would come back down and load the tires again, just to be tossed up again. It was a fun car to drive as long as you could keep the front tires on the ground.

No this is normal.. Wheel hop is actually a sign of a car with ample torque trying to get traction.. Its not generally good for the car and can lead to transmission, motor mount, and differential failure.. but hey, you bought a hot rodded Jag for the same reason I did, to go fast.. Breaking sh*t is just part of the game.. When you feel the wheels start to hop, you generally will want to back out of it, because too much wheel hop will/can break stuff. It's the loosing and gaining of traction off and on, that will actually cause the car to oscillate in the rear, from a slight to severe hop. That's where the sensation of wheel hop comes from. Eric
