Default Windscreen degradation

Hello

I wonder if anyone can help me please?

I have a 1999 XKR Coupe which I bought in 2009 and I believe it is the original windscreen. I have noticed recently what looks like sand in the top left hand corner. I tried to clean it on both the outer and inner but the problem remains. A friend of mine reckons it is moisture getting in through the bonding over the years and penetrating into the laminated screen. Other than a cosmetic issue, is this something I need to be concerned about?

Many thanks for any advice guys.

Cheers

Smitty 👍

After many years, moisture can make its way into the lamination layer, but usually only very slightly. My wife's 2009 New Beetle has this on the top edge. However a recent stone chip has caused a crack so the screen is going to be replaced soon. It is not anything to worry about IMHO if you can put up with the appearance, it's certainly not an MOT failure.

Cheers for the advice. It is a bit unsightly but an original 23 year old windscreen.

My S1 XKR is really good and no rust, bodywork perfect, rear sills cut out and re welded, interior good but the driver seat is painted not colonised, but to get it concourse it would probably take another load of money. Pointless to spend 5k to get a very very good car into a 100 pointer. Even then the men in tweed will facial hair and clipboards could find fault. I find loads of stuff I would like to do to make it perfect. When I first got her I used to clean the inside of the tailpipes with an old toothbrush and autosol metal polish. How sad is that!? 😅

Well, I have to say I always polish the chrome(or maybe stainless) tailpipes, but don't go quite that far !
