ZF6HP26 Transmission Leaking Profusely Only After 3 Days of Sitting
Ok, Land Rover LR3 owner here. I'm coming to you out of respect as I've found a lot of important info on this forum that applies to my vehicle and I'm hoping you all could help me once again with this issue as it's one that is baffling me. I've got a substantial leak coming from the front of the transmission (ZF6HP26). It drives fine and everything. Shifts fine. There's no leaking while driving. There's no leaking while parked. I check my parking spot at work and at my house every morning and evening to be sure. However, three times in the past 2 months I've left it sitting for 3+ days and each time I've come back from the trip and it's been sitting there with a substantial puddle of fluid beneath it. I've attached a photo of the location of the leak. Also, I've checked all around the pan and there are no leaks.
Any help would be fantastic! This one makes absolutely no sense to me.

Hello, did you find the source of your leak?I'm starting to have the same leak after having it sit for a week in an 04 XJR. it seems to be seeping through the Torque Converter Housig, guessing might be an input seal. Before wipe down Seepage after a wipe down with a paper towel

Far removed from Jag or LR, but I just had the same issue fixed on our 1972 Chevelle.
Driven daily or at least every couple of days all was fine.
When sitting for a week or more it would leak the amount of fluid in the converter.
Shop removed the trans and re-sealed the converter and front pump to repair it.

i would verify that you are not overfilled using the required method for landrover...if it is a zf trans then the zf procedure should be followed...if level is good then probably the front trans seal...after 2 days of sitting it leaks enough to puddle in the trans housing and leak out that plug...verify correct level first though

I found the source of my leak. $6 seal at TQ converter to pump. Replacing the seal itself was about a 10 minute job but dropping the transmission and reinstalling it was a weekend for me. I got this cool tranny jack from Harbor Freight for cheap, it works and rolls smoothly. I did the job on ramps and jack stands. Not too hard to drop the trannny just a little time consuming getting all the bellhousing bolts out.Should add a couple of tips to drop the transmission. remove catalytic converters then remove the rear brace and disconnect drive shaft and drop the rear of the transmission as far as you can to access all the top bolts of the bellhousing. I highly recommend buying S shape wrenches to fit within the tight space. Soak everyting with a penetrant ahead of time such as PB Blaster.
