Default Why electric vehicles need special tires.

Interesting read on tire selection for our cars (for most of us this is off in our future). But it explains why you need special formulations for the unique needs of an electric. https://www.greencarreports.com/news...ifferent-tires

Interesting article.

I've already begun the process of shopping for a set of winter wheels and tires for the I-Pace. The snow will be flying here in the mountains of Colorado in about 8 weeks. I've been looking at load ratings to make sure that I get something that's appropriate, but I haven't seen a winter tire that's specifically designed for an EV. Tirerack recommends a Vredstein tire in 20", but I don't have any experience with those. I've traditionally used Michelin Latitude Alpin winter tires, or Nokia Hakkapeliitta winter tires.

Any suggestions from the forum members on winter wheels and tires? My Jaguar dealer is offering me a set of new 20" I-Pace wheels at a significant discount, so I'll probably go with those. I may consider a slightly narrower tire, such as a 245 width. I know that an 18" wheel is something that I should consider too, but it just looks too small. I don't think I can do it.

Default Snow Tires

I didn't like the Jaguar wheels so I went with a set of Range Rover wheels and bought some Bridgestone Blizzeks, I think they are still top rated. They just plowed through the snow last near. Was really impressed. The Range Rover wheels are really reasonable on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Range-Rover...AAAOSw61BeFY3d

I liked the wheels so much I bought another set and had them Powder Coated to match the car:

Thanks for that. Are the Range Rover wheel sizes and offsets the same as the Jaguar I-Pace wheels? That might be an interesting possibility.

I actually don't mind some of the Jaguar OE wheels for a winter set, especially if I get a good deal on them. I like the look of the 20" T4K2252 wheel. They list for $1,210.00 each, and my local Jaguar dealer will sell them to me for $823.20 each.

I'll take a look at the Range Rover wheels and see if there's anything there that I like. Thanks for the suggestion.

But the Range Rover wheels on eBay are $999 for 4 of them (at the bottom of the page I linked to others had them for as little as $875 and there were other choices as well). The offset is a little different but they bolted on no problem (didn't need spacers are anything). Anyway good luck! (Oh and, as you can see, the Range Rover wheels will take a Jaguar center cap).

That's a big difference! They're not OE Range Rover wheels, right? I assume that they are a Chinese made knockoff at that price point. How's the quality? Are you pleased overall?

My Jaguar sales associate told me that I'd have to have the TPMS sensors programmed to work properly for the new set of wheels. Is this true? I've never had to to that in any of my other vehicles with TPMS sensors.

I ended up getting the TPMS sensors from Jaguar to make sure they'd work. I couldn't tell the difference between these and OEM wheels the quality is incredibly high. As I say, I bought two sets because I liked them better than the black stock wheels I originally got on the car.
