WD got a new 2000 XJR, Porting and cleaning up Charge Coolers
Bought a like new 2000 Black Pearl over Ivory XJR. It was a deal I could not pass up. $8,300 for 54,800 miles and NEVER THROUGH A CAR WASH, always washed by hand! The seats look like they have never been sat in. Cream puff garage queen. Good maintenance. All the hoses and water pump were just changed. The tensioners were original, so I changed them this week. While the SC is off I changed the hoses under the SC, and will change the knock sensors when they arrive.
I let the car sit for less than one day before taking off the top end of the engine for some upgrades. I figured while the charge coolers were off I might as well clean up the ports a little, polish and clean them. I also ported the elbow to match the 82mm Maxbored TB like I did on my previous XJR.
I used gasoline to clean out the gunk on the fins (they were coated with baked on oil) and they came out good as new (see 3rd photo), then I did a tiny amount of porting and smoothing of the outlets and painted everything silver for that new look. The first photo is the before and after side by side, 2nd is showing the port smoothing, and the 3rd is showing what the inside of the clean charge coolers look like.
What do you think?
