Default Alternative trensmission behind V8 engine?

as in topic, do anyone have any suggestions for retro fitting an XJR engine in a older car?
Engine will be running with an aftermarket ECU, but I hoped to use a automatic transmission behind it.
so is it any ways to make a automatic fit and work behind the V8?
Make an adapter plate for TH400 from the V12 engine?
what kind of transmissions was offerd for the V8 actually?

thanks for any help.

I can't say on the retrofit issue, but as I have just become intimate with the transmission in mine as it blew up, the Mercedes 722.6 (W5A-580) is the one that is in it. There were very few options for heavy duty transmissions for the HP/Torque of these motors. It is electronic and the gearshift as well as the TCM are specific to it.

I've heard that the mercedes transmissions in the XJR was not good.
The TH400 is said to be a good transmission that can survive the most, but, I've noticed that the mounting flange looks similar on the V12 trans V.S V8 Trans.

If I were thinking about this, I would consider the 700R4. They can be made to withstand a bunch of torque. They are plentiful here in the U.S. and no TCM needed (just a cable to the throttle). You would have the overdrive that the T400 does not have. The THM400 is a bulletproof gearbox and I just built one to put in my supercharged small block Chevy powered car. I installed the TransGo 123 so it should be OK.

thanks for the tip
I think that is a better option because of the missing overdrive on the 400.
