Default Embed YouTube videos

As far as I can tell we are not able to embed youtube videos within our posts. Many of the car websites I frequent have that ability. Is this something that can be easily done, or are their technical or bandwidth issues that I am not aware of?

Hi there, you are correct, we can't directly embed youtube vids. Only the Forum Admin can add a new BB code to allow embedding youtube vids into posts, using Admin CP.

And the youtube BB is not currently in the list.

I can think of many reasons for not adding this feature, bandwidth just being one of them. Management would be another.

The current system, whereby a link opens a new tab or window so that the user watches the video directly in youtube works for me. It gives me the choice not to click on the link rather than having the video load directly into a thread.

Fair enough, but doesn't the bandwidth come from youtube?

I like it for the convenience of NOT having to open yet another browser. Thanks for the reply.

Yes it would.

Re your browser, why do you have to open another browser in IE and FF if I hit a link to an external site, a new tab instantly opens and will play the Youtube vid straight away.

I would also add that for many people youtube is blocked when they are accessing from work or school, but when the video is embedded they are able to watch as the browser doesn't try and start a new session.

Just throwing into the pot a suggestion that YouTube embedding should be enabled...

Let's bring this forum into 2006!

Where have you been?

Since this thread started way back when, the issue was looked at, ummed and ahhed, and now....

Embedding is enabled and has been for around a year.
