Default Garage Talk app is rubbish and should be avoided

I have been trying out the garage talk app and quite frankly it sucks.

Pluses:
1) Quite fast
2) Nice notification box in top right corner of screen.
3) easy to view photo attachments.

Negatives:
1) Giant ads. The ads take up a lot of screen real estate which means you can quite easily accidentally click on an ad.
2) Giant pop-ups. Once you accidentally select an ad it blows into a giant full screen ad. One of the advertisers full-screen ads causes the app to crash.

quite frankly this app is unusable because it is so annoying. I'd rather just use the iPhone formatted web page because it has less advertising.

GT makes money from sponsors, the need to also make money from giant pop up ads is pure greed at the expense of customer experience.

I will not use the app, and my page views for the paying site sponsors (the sponsored sellers on the site) will be lower because I won't be logging on as often.

And the annoying thing is the IB Brands app is much better, but it no longer works so they are forcing people on this ad exploitation platform.

If Jaguar Forums wants more money, why not offer a paid app or a subscription option for ad-free service. With that you will still make money of paid listings from sponsors that sell on the site.

You were vociferous in your criticism of the Garage App but had clearly done an in depth appraisal so I thought I'd take a look.

Unfortunately the App is not compatible with my my Android phone (Samsung GT-S5830i) and I'm not sufficiently interested in accessing the forum through an App to update my phone.

Ok I have had the new app on my phone for a while now - not so much for adding to threads but for keeping an eye on any new updates whenever I am away from my PC.

Yes it has adverts, but if any of you have kids that share your phone you will know almost everything comes free but with ads to pay for it, and usually you get lots of push notifications trying to get you to use the app more frequently.

This app at least does not have push notifications, it just updates its onscreen icon with the number of thread updates that you have yet to see. The adverts are a pain, but hey this is a free app, and to be honest you get used to the ads and bypassing them as you go..

The app gives a clear indication of the forums (well, singular forum in my case) you have as favourites, and a button showing how many thread updates await your attention. Click on the forum and you go to the list of sections, and click on the updates button and you go directly to the thread updates.

It doesn't crash on me, has given none of the frustrating errors I often had for weeks at a time with the old app and it does a fair job. Yes it has adverts, but yes it is free.. it doesn't hassle me with push notifications, it's reasonably fast on my LG G3, and whilst it is not too good at adding entried to threads you can manage it..

My phone is just a phone, not a full blown PC with fullsize keyboard and a good size screen estate - so it does as well as I would reasonably expect it to - keeping me informed of updates, allowing me to view them, and add updates at a push.. anything more serious I would always, and will always depend on my trusty PC..

I love it. "Although you piqued my interest, I found I couldn't be bothered." Classic!

I use the app daily. It's insufficient for much more than reading on the ferry-ride to work or posting a response like this one when I'm too lazy to arise from my post-prandial couch position. But that's OK.

I can't "Thank" posts with it.
