Up Loading pictures. How to...
With some embarrassment after years on this forum I ask the question.
How is it most upload pictures effortlessly when all I get is "Jaguar Forums asks for the URL ...."
I don't know what the URL is! If uploading on other sites I usually get 'Browse' pictures which, when selected you just click 'open'
And yes I have looked at the quick links etc to no avail. Any help in basic computer lingo appreciated as I am no electronics guru.
In advance.....Neil

Hey Neil,
I've moved you post from the Photography section to the Feedback & Suggestions section.
If you see the top of this section there is a sticky thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...pictures-2418/ which explains about hosting pictures on an external site, and then posting them with the appropriate links.
The other way to do it is upload the pictures to your "garage" and then you can use the links provided from the garage to post in whichever thread you want to.
I use DropBox myself, I find it more private than Photobucket or other picture hosting sites...
If you want to install DropBox then follow this link DropBox referral from Cambo

Don't worry Neil, I had no idea about this stuff until I joined this forum
Long story short, you need to have your pictures hosted somewhere that there is a web address (URL) for that particular picture. Then you can post it here.
How you get your pictures "online" is really the only tricky part. Which is why I like the DropBox, it puts a folder on your desktop, and all you need to do is right-click the picture with the mouse, and select "copy public link" and then paste it where the forum is asking for the URL.

I don't think you got the full link copied somehow.
The pictures need to go in your public folder only, they can't be posted online if they are not in the public folder. When you have the Public folder open on your desktop (and it's connected/synchronised with the DropBox server) you should see an option when you rightclick to Copy Public Link.
The link should look like https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...1_154151_1.jpg but with your information in there.
That's the one to paste in when the forum asks for a URL of the picture.

Now that you have that down and are feeling all warm and fuzzy, we've changed it!
See below.
Big news, everyone!
We've rolled out a new photo uploader that makes adding images to threads and posts much, much easier.
1. Start at the same place, by clicking the "Add Image" button in the editor.
2. You can drag & drop from a folder, open and browse to choose images, or just as always--add a URL.
3. The images will then upload to your album in the gallery, from which you can pull these images in the future for other threads.
In the upper right-hand corner, clicking "Reorder Images" will allow you to move your images around into the order you would like displayed in the thread.
Now we have images in the thread!
PART II: Adding existing images
Open the Add Images as usual, and click on "Add from Albums"
Scroll through the bottom and click on the images to add them
Choose your images, and click insert to add them into your post!

Have you all noticed that the new upload feature is not resizing pictures? I tried to upload some photos and they ended up being larger than my monitor could even view them. See THIS POST on the XK/XKR official picture thread for example.
I made a post directly below it with smaller pictures, but I had to email them to myself to resize them to a reasonable size first. The forum used to resize pics automatically. Well, sometimes it did.

Pictures are automatically scaled to fit the screen, at least for me....
Here's a very large picture which I uploaded as a test earlier, it was 9.6mb sized 11226x2936, after uploading to the gallery it was scaled down to 2000x524, when viewing on my screen it's 1024x268.
If you right click & open in new window, it will be full size. If you click normally there should be a popup window showing the picture, on my screen it shows as 1216x319
