Useless website

As to forum usability itself, JF is based on vbulletin which runs at least half of all forums in existence. If it was completely unusable by all people, it would not occupy that position of market leadership.

Not too sure why poster has such a difficult time starting a new thread to ask a question. I just joined the forum about ten minutes ago and have already posted my first question! Sometimes people are just too tech-minded and the simple stuff escapes them.

The audacity.. how can you refer to the greatest car forum I have ever known or been a part of, as "useless"? I am a member of several forums and the Jaguar forum is by far the best, most helpful, user friendly place I have found on the entire Internet.. not only is the forum straightforward and easy to use but it is filled with extremely helpful, polite members and moderators(that take the very few if any rants from disgruntled forum members with a smile and still try to help!!!) What more could you ask for? To hear this forum referred to as "useless" is offensive to me and most of the others who find this place great. HOW DARE YOU?
FYI: This Forum Is The MOST USEFUL Place I Have Found On The Web!!!

I'm Back.. I Thought The Feeling Of Being Slapped In The Face Had Subsided ...Far From It. I Have Abandoned Most Other Forums, For Simply Having To Deal With People Being Rude, Immature, Flamers, And Just Being There To Take And Not Give. Until I've Joined Jaguar Forums.. I Thought This Kind Of Conduct Was Normal Forum Behavior. Now I've Washed My Hands Of 4 Outta 6 Forums I Was Part Of Just Because Of The Immence Amount Of Knowledge And Kindness I Receive From This Site. I Refuse To Tolerate The Disrespect And Rudeness I've Dealt With On The Real "Useless Websites"

Thanks on behalf of all members, moderators who use this site for those very kind words, they are appreciated.
We really do try our best here to make it the best forum we can, and generally, I believe that most appreciate this.
We're by no means perfect, but always striving to be better.
Onwards and upwards

I find this all very interesting. As someone who builds and tests websites for a living, I am continually amazed when I hear a perspective which differs from my own or the majority. I can now see how someone would interpret "new posts" as "this is where you create new posts", but it is not a meaning I would have guessed on my own. Thanks for the insight!

When people expect to be spoon-fed, there's never enough instructions to please them. Sometimes it's necessary to rely on basic intelligence and familiarity with similar websites or other experiences to relay the message. Some people will never learn, but most will. You could call the new threads option "Steak dinner" and most people, not all, would eventually click on "Steak dinner" to create new threads. You can't always dumb things down to the lowest common denominator.
We pride ourselves on the friendly nature of this forum, this includes responses from ALL members and not just the mod team.
As 'mods' we are more likely to step in with editing action when a reply is negative e.g. (RTFM) rather than a new question ( How do I....).
Everyone was new at something at some time or another.
Generally, for me the intriguing thing is when I click on a 'nav' button and I am not greeted with my perceived expectations. This then leads me to a, look at what I did, b, look at what the web designer did, c, think about where either a, or b, went wrong, and d, think about a solution.
Preconceived ideas of how a user will use a website are only valid if there is a very specific target audience, who have the background knowledge that can negate some handholding.
Here, we hope to cater for everyone who is a Jaguar ENTHUSIAST.
And so, we all continue.

I just click another button until I find one that does what I want.

Yes, while user testing a website, you will get all sorts of answers & requests that may be far outside the median responses. Many of these which will actually conflict with each other. For example 10% may demand a "steak dinner" button, while 10% will demand a "vegan dinner" button. Naming the button "new posts steak dinner vegan dinner" would confuse 100% of the customers. It is indeed an art.

At the risk of repeating myself, I'm a total newbie, not only to this forum but to Jaguars in general. I've found the site very easy to navigate. Right away I saw where to start a new thread, posted a question about something which most here would probably find ridiculously simple (repeat: newbie!), and in a very short time got several answers that helped tremendously. Okay, it was about changing a brake light bulb which would seem minor to most but it's something that I usually had someone else do but wanted to figure out how to do by myself. The answers I got were exactly what I needed, and the people that answered did not make me feel like I was a moron for not knowing something so basic. (and I changed the bulb, all by myself!). I'm very glad I found and joined this forum and anyone that says it's useless shouldn't even be here. (just wait for my next question, probably something about a fuse, or changing a headlight bulb!)

Don't quite know if we can mark this as resolved, the OP hasn't came back to the post in a while.
Anyhow, we very rarely ever close threads unless there is a specific reason, so we'll leave it open, in the event there are any other points to debate, however, I do hope it is "resolved" to some degree.
